We spent 6 days with Marnu as our guide. While new to this preserve, his prior experience was very evident. In addition to what you may normally expect he also was extremely knowledgeable in birding. This brought an additional level of entertainment to our safari we may not have been otherwise exposed to.
In addition to his knowledge of the animals and area, Marnu is extremely personable & wants to cater to your interests, as he did in indulging Rob’s interest in birding, which benefited everyone in our group.
Marnu will stop often to take the time to answer questions and explain what is going on.
You are generally assigned a guide prior to you arrival. So, it will be necessary for you to request Marnu as your safari guide when making your reservation.

The entire staff at Zulu Nyala Heritage Lodge was extremely friendly, professional, and helpful in every way. My one comment regarding where they can improve would be a selection of food. It was C+ at best—But the staff are all very friendly and helpful.

Our daily Safari Guide Marnu Botes was INCREDIBLE!! He was knowledgeable, fun, helpful and had great people skills. He shared interesting facts about the animals we were viewing and went out of his way to make sure we had an opportunity to take as many pictures as possible. He repositioned our Jeep to get better photos and also was considerate of the other vehicles and guides who were in our area— making sure to share info and give other people on safari with different reserves a chance to view the varied wildlife.
He deserves an A++
Thanks Marnu and all the staff at Zulu Nyala Lodge for the GREAT trip!

Going out on safaris with Marnu was the best part of our stay. He was very knowledgeable about all of the animals we saw. As the week progressed and our group became more familiar with the preserve and what it could offer, Marnu would customize our trips to fit a particular interest such as birding. This really broaden our overall experience and we all felt that we were getting special treatment.

Overall the staff was very accommodating.

We had a six-day blast at Zulu Nyala. Knowledgeable, conscientious guides do their level best to ensure you see the animals in their natural habitat. Plus, they put you in a group with other people, so it's very easy to make friends in a hurry.

The website is a bit of a mess, so you're confused about the difference between the Heritage Safari Lodge and Game Lodge. Three miles apart, the two are substantially different. We stayed three days in one and three and the other. Terrific, accommodating people at both.

Small quibbles:

1) The food wasn't bad but could use a serious upgrade, both in terms of quality and variety.
2) The gift shops are nice, but the management would do their guests a real service by offering some basic sundries such as over-the-counter medication, et al.
3) If you're like me, you still need to stay in check in with the office every once in a while. A better WiFi would make them aces in my book.
4) Again the website. Further, the ZN needs to work on communication. I e-mailed and called several times prior to my visit with a couple of simple questions and simply could not get a response.

But, once again, these are minor faults of a terrific property. Highly recommend.

We had a lovely relaxing comfortable weekend in our tented accommodation at Zulu Nyala, The staff are friendly & helpful, the food was tasty & plentiful ! The game drive was fun. The tented accommodation was just the perfect size and comfortable. Lovely sitting on the stoep at sunset watching the wildlife. Great place !
