It's hard to know where to begin with my incredible and unforgettable stay at Lukimbi. I guess... the animals? situated on a private reserve, we and the handful of other guests got them all to ourselves: lions, elephants, hippos, giraffes, zebras, monkeys, and more. Unlike the public park, the animals weren't overwhelmed by fleets of jeeps encircling them with camera-snapping tourists. Here, it was just 6 people in a vehicle and the wild. The mornings were gorgeous, with the sun rising over the mists rising from the Bush. The evening safaris fond us drinking gin and tonics at a folding table the guides set up in the Bush, under a blood red sun.

The guides were just great. Passionate and knowledgable, and also very attuned to our safety. The rest of the staff was equally professional, from the desk, to the restaurant staff, to the barman, to house keeping. So many nice touches. We loved the hot towels that we'd be greeted with upon return from the safari, for one.

The property itself was impressive. The entire structure is built to make the frequently-visited watering hole the centerpiece. Whether eating at the restaurant, swimming in the pool, or hanging out at the back porch of the cabins (or even showering or taking a bath, yup, sitting on the toilet.., ha ha), you could pretty much be sure to see elephants and impala passing by.

The rooms themselves are clean, nicely decorated and comfortable. The food is good. Drinks aren't part of the all-inclusive, but we were surprised how reasonable the prices were; we had quite a lot, and the bill wasn't bad at all.

Lukimbi is probably one of the best places i've ever stayed. I highly recommend going for it and doing a bigger spend and staying here. Six stars out of five.

My wife and 24-year old daughter spent three days and two night at Lukimbi and I can say without reservation that it was one of teh best trips of my 55-year traveling life. Kruger national park is a true treasure, but to really understand it appreciate it, and get up close and personal with the beautiful wildlife, it sure helps to have a fantastic guide like Sean and a great tracker like Golden. Those guys were fantastic hosts, and super knowledgeable and fun loving. But then to have the 5-star food waiting for us each night made it even better. Our two lodges (West #3 and #2) just happened to look out over the most active part of the local watering hole. So from our private balcony and even from the outdoor shower, we go to see elephants playing and antelope grazing. This place far exceeded our expectations and you really can't go wrong here!

Room Tip: In the drier months, when the watering hole "shrinks" a bit, you want to be in one of the West side rooms for best daily animal views

I am a seasoned Kruger Park Traveler and have been fortunate enough to have visited Lukimbi twice before but some time ago , this visit of two days was just too short , The Staff all know you name on arrival , the food and wine collection is excellent. The Game sightings were superb with the expert guiding of Morne and tracking by Stranger , We had lions cubs on a kill, Cheetah on a kill , 3 separate leopard sightings , lots of big5 , daily visits from elephants to the lodge to drink and even a Lion encounter outside the Lodge with a buffalo , Daily Bush walks are also offered , staff are all amazing , its feels personal at every interaction . Thanks Nadia and Meagan who administer the Hotel and run the quaint spa respectively

Room Tip: if you want one on one with nature ask for room E7, quite and no fences around your private balcony

We cannot say enough about the Lukimbi Safari Lodge! It was first class in every way! From the moment we were greeted we felt welcome and at home! The room accommodations were 5 star and yet comfortable and homey! The food was excellent and beautifully presented as well. The safari drives were great! Loved our driver Werner and tracker KK! Saw 4 of the big five! Loved watching the elephants at the watering hole within view of our room! The large tub with the picture window was fabulous. Would recommend this to anyone!

We stayed for 3 days and 2 nights, a party of 9, a mix of adults and teenagers, seasoned travelers and novices.

Most in the party had Classic Suites, which are large and beautiful, with outdoor shower, big tub that overlooks the river, sitting area and porch. They are more than large enough for two adults and a teenager on a single bed which the staff brought in, complete with mosquito netting. One in our party had the Premiere Suite, which has all the features of the Classic, and adds a second bathroom, larger sitting area, and a small private pool.

The food was excellent, a variety of South African food and more typically Western food. A couple in our party had special dietary needs, which the staff cheerfully accommodated, to the point of the chef coming out after one dinner to check how the specialty options were. The African game was delicious, as well as the Kingclip (whitefish). Breakfast included a buffet and hot items available, and lunch a tasty buffet.

Staff and service were pleasant, friendly, helpful and flexible. The travel agent who booked our party made a mistake (number and type of rooms), and the Lukimbi staff fixed the problem within a 1/2 hour of our arrival, in spite of the fact that it was not their mistake. Our guide and tracker team, Sheldon and Mike, were excellent. In addition to their skills at tracking and finding game for us to see, they were engaging and clearly enjoyed talking with us and discussing the animals, not simply asking questions.

We arrived midday on Sunday and left midday on Tuesday. Our time included 4 game drives and one bush walk (1 drive the afternoon we arrived, two the second day, and 1 before we left the third day) We enjoyed seeing a huge range of animals, from the large impressive ones to the small cute ones. Our guide and tracker were enthusiastic about every one of them.

Don't forget warm layers for the early morning game drives, it can be quite cold first thing, but the staff provide hot water bottles and tea/coffee which make it fine.

And if you enjoy stargazing, ask the staff to retract the porch awning, so you can sit out and see the stars.

Overall, a great experience.

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the lodge overlook the watering hole, further from the lodge are more private.
