I can't really add anything to any of the other reviews, except to say that they're all true! Great hosts - friendly and helpful, giving good advice on where to go, what to do, where to eat - and the accommodation is fabulous - comfortable, spacious, relaxing and wonderfully cool in the heat. The breakfasts shouldn't be missed, with a huge selection of hot and cold to choose from, cooked to perfection by Phil! The birdlife is very varied and lovely to listen to; we were treated to an incredible dawn chorus on the first morning, partly due to the presence for a couple of days of 2 beautiful owls who had taken up residence in a tree right outside our sons' balcony! (see photo). The location is very convenient for a great range of activities as well as the Kruger and Sabi Sands, not forgetting the stunning canyon drives. If you like wildlife you should also visit the golf course at Sabi River Sun hotel, where there are a large number of hippos that can be seen in the lake, as well as crocodiles and an unbelievable number of nesting birds. Would definitely recommend Blue Jay Lodge for couples as well as families.

Room Tip: The self-catering room is huge and well worth the extra - you can still have breakfast provided if you wish, for an extra charge.

Whilst the accommodation provided matched exactly as it appeared in brochure (believe me when I say that ads are glossier than reality) - game lodge style, awesome decor, tranquil, exceptionally clean and comfortable with a turndown service, what touched me most during my stay at Bluejay was the hospitality that we received from Phil and Margi. It was like we were visiting an old acquaintance. The personal touch differentiates Bluejays from all other places we have ever been at. It was awesome.
It gets full points for its location - 10 Kms away from Kruger and in close vicinity of the panoramic route - including blyde river canyon, berlin falls, gods window etc.
Highly recommended
And thanks Phil and Margi for making us feel so much at home :)

Phil & Margi were the perfect hosts; the room was large, beautifully designed, scrupulously clean, well-equipped and extremely comfortable. The location - just minutes from the Kruger National Park and a short drive from the Blyde River Canyon - was perfect for our needs. Would highly recommend to anyone wishing to combine wildlife watching in the Kruger Park and Sabi Sands Game Reserve with local sightseeing - so much better, more comfortable and luxurious, than staying within the Kruger Park. Also, I suspect, fewer mosquitos - although we were here at what was supposed to be peak mosquito time, we weren't bothered by them at all at Blue Jay Lodge.

We started our 3 week long trip in South Africa with 3 nights at Blue Jay Lodge. We were greeted by Phil and Margi when we arrived and offered drinks and great advice on our itinerary in the Hazyview area. I didn't realize how important this was until we arrived at other guest lodges in South Africa and were not greeted by the owners who could tell us where to go for dinner and make suggestions on things to do in the area.
The rooms are fantastic. We booked the self catering suite (but still had breakfast with Phil and Margi each morning). The room was huge and very nicely decorated. The bed was extremely comfortable - and hard to get out of in the morning.
There is a lot to do in the area with a Kruger park entrance only 10Km away, Elephant Whispers (highly recommended) and Blyde River Canyon viewpoints and hikes 30Km away.

I stayed here two nights and my stay was too short. Phil and Margi are great hosts, welcoming us with drinks on their patio. They have plenty of stories to share, and also provide great tips on things to do in the area. Their home and rooms are amazing - beautifully built and incredibly comfortable.
