The visit to the Elephant sanctuary Hazyview was the best thing we could have done. We got to meet Kasper and Kitso(Knowledge) and I couldn't believe how such giants would have the most amazing souls. Got a kiss from Kitso and got to walk with Kasper. The handlers were a bit impatient when it came to the interaction, maybe cause there were a lot people and time was limited but I would have loved to spend at least 5 - 10 minutes with the interaction. Apart from that it was a very informative and wonderful experience, we thoroughly enjoyed every minute.

Good day H4888ZTpatriciam

Thank you for your great review.

We are glad you had such a wonderful experience.

My sincerest apology if you felt the handlers got a bit impatient, but I can promise you this was not the case. To give you some insight the handlers are trained professionals ad know all there is to know about elephants. They know every mood or feeling that Kasper and Kitso is having and many times if there is a lot of people they can also get agitated. The handlers saw this and that is why they might have looked impatient. I hope you understand.

If i can make a suggestion, on your next visit consider the Big Foot Experience then you can spend more time with us.

Kind regards

The guide educates you prior to the encounter about the facility and the elephants which was interesting. The elephants however seemed trained and though we enjoyed the close encounter we had mixed feelings about the
conditions where they resided. If they are truly rescued animals then this is a good facility.

These two gentle giants, Casper and Kitso, have stolen our hearts. At the beginning of the day, standing next to them, we realised just how insignificant and removed our lives can become if we allow this. After spending the whole day with them (Big Foot Experience), mucking out their stables, watering them, brushing them, interacting with them, listening to them, watching them with each other, connecting with them, touching them, we have learned so much - in particular an overwhelming respect for wildlife.
Thank you to our guide for the day, Charemera, and to the staff at Hazyview Elephant Sanctuary for the wonderful work you do. We're looking forward to returning, hopefully before Casper and Kitso are rehabilitated back into the wild so we can spend the day with our boys again (purely selfish reasons).

We chose to do the Sundowner tour and were rewarded with watching these animals at play in the water, just being themselves. There are only two rescued bull elephants at this sanctuary which made it feel less commercial. We had an interesting talk about Elephant anatomy at the beginning of the tour from a friendly and knowledgeable guide. He showed us the building where the animals slept at night and the different plants they grew for the elephants to graze. The elephants meanwhile, were behind us enjoying a hose down from their handlers. We then got to meet these two giants who were calmly eating supplementary pellets whilst we were able to stroke them and appreciate their awesome size and power. The handlers were very friendly and were able to answer all my questions, of which there were many. We went on a trunk walk, where the elephant puts it's trunk in your hand and follows you, and you are so aware of how huge and powerful these animals are. Finally we were taken to a lake where a drink and snack were laid on but more importantly the animals were free to be themselves. We spent about half an hour watching these two amazing creatures interact without human intervention and it was the highlight of the day.

I'm not a fan of animals being paraded around for tourists like me however a visit to this place and learning the history of the two magnificent beings we encountered has changed my perspective.............If anything, just feel them-

Whilst I have reservations about animals in captivity, I did enjoy getting to interact with Kaspar and Kitso, the sanctuary’s resident elephants whose alternative to being there had been to get shot. They appeared very calm and well looked after and we were given an interesting talk on elephants before meeting them. It’s certainly quite intimidating standing so close to such a huge animal and you don’t realise just how big they are until you do! But as I said before they were very calm and I did enjoy the experience.

Our family visited the Elephant Sanctuary in Hazyview in August and loved it. The animal handlers were very professional during the entire experience. It was interesting to witness the mutual respect between animal and handler. My 4 young kids (10,8,5,4) were completely engaged while learning about these amazing creatures.

We did the “Trunk-in-hand” experience and were able to meet and pet 2 elephants. My kids loved feeling the texture of their skin, feet, and ears. The elephants were relaxed and calm and seemed to enjoy the attention. Each person was given 2-3 minutes of individual time with the elephants. After, we took the elephants for a walk (in groups of two) while holding the elephants trunk, or more accurately the elephant reaches and grabs your hand with their trunk. It’s pretty cool to feel how dexterous they can be with their trunks. It was so exciting to look over your shoulder and see an enormous African elephant gently walking behind you holding your hand. Something my family will never forget.

I can't say enough about the staff and how much they truly care for these amazing animals. These particular elephants were rescued from bad situations and can not go back to the wild. The animals love the attention, but the staff takes special care limiting the amount they get every day, so as not to overwhelm them.

All in all, it was a great experience for our family, to see these animal in the wild (Kruger National Park) and to have a “trunk-in-hand” experience at the Elephant Sanctuary; where we learned so much about these amazing giants. If you are going to Kruger, you need to top off your trip in Hazyview to see the animals up close!

This was one of the highlights of the holiday; we were able to interact with these magnificent animals in a relaxed atmosphere. The whole experience was educational, the information we gained was fascinating and the opportunity to meet, touch and ultimately lead them gently by their trunks on a short walk made the whole experience all the more remarkable. We fully recommend this experience not least for the unique, caring and non exploitative nature of the sanctuary.

So worth it. We got to both learn about the elephant anatomy, each of the elephants stories and how they got rescued. But also got to meet and touch the elephants. The staff is very believable and so is the sanctuary as such.
