My husband and I had an amazing stay at the Palace hotel. The entire welcome reception felt like being a royal and the staff was amazing! The Executive Floor Manager was always one step ahead of us and saw to our every need to perfection! We had some minor problems with the television reception but the maintenance staff were efficient and attended to the problem until it was repaired.
Breakfast was special... we were treated to a huge buffet of the freshest fruit, sushi, delectable waffles and pancakes, and the best omlettes ever tasted.
What amazed me the most, apart from the BEST breakfast and welcome reception experienced... is the fact that the Palace Hotel rallied to show that it was united in its commitment to a sustainable future, taking part in Earth Hour 2011. Its not very often that you get establishments that join forces in saving the earth that we all treasure...so thank you to all the management at the hotel...well done!
A visit to the Palace Hotel and the Sun City resort is a must when travelling to South Africa.

Renting a suite is all about service and comfort and the fullfillment of any other needs. Three busy grand children remained happy and smiling and we could relax. The breakfast spread is exceptional.

The hotel entrance is breathtaking, the welcome cocktail, chocolate strawberry and reception were smooth and professional. Our room smelt damp, so Savita Vig, Bernard and the staff moved us rapidly and treated us with great repect and service throughout our 4-day stay in Sun City. The pool is fabulous, the Valley of Waves and gym at the Golf Club were 1st class, free wifi much appreciated and the breakfast was the best we have ever had (and we've had a few!), no question. Couldn't recommend it more highly.

Upon arrival the bellsaff nearly ripped the bags out of my hand. The hotel is very dated. Carpets, fixtures, paint, etc. are all showing their age. The tiles on the shower floor poked at my feet; the shower head leaked on two sides; the cold water never got truly cold. This 'five star' property does not have broadband connection; there were three different types of of recepticles in my room. It took the staff two attempts to find a proper converter. One of them suggested that a suitable plug was located underneath the desk in the room, only to discover that there was no desk in my room.

The bathtub in the bathroom was tiny.

The 'king' bed in my room was two small beds pushed together.

The nature and grounds around the hotel are spectacular.

I was going to describe the food as army food but then it would be insulting to the army. To be fair, the breakfast buffet is pretty good. Lunch and dinner are terrible. They simply do not know how to cook here. Save for the breakfast, the food ranged from mediocre to outright disgusting.

The hotel is very disorganized in little details. For instance, on two occasions the lobby bar did not have napkins (I stayed for four nights so that's half the time). Not a tragedy, but still unprofessional. Once they ran out of one type of beer and a fresh keg was apparently 'being deliverd any minute' (they had two types on tap). I saw several times employees use the bathroom and not wash hands.

The price (equivalent of US$530/night) can be charitably described as outrageous and completely not worth it.

I will avoid as much as possible having to stay at this awful place again and do not receommend anyone visit it.

If you are looking for a truly wonderful, romantic, luxurious weekend away then the Palace is a definite MUST! It was our first wedding anniversay and the staff were wonderful, friendly, extremely helpful and the service was outstanding. We were treated like royalty and we came away planning our next trip back to the Palace - a truly awesome experience!
