Outstanding sushi with some of the freshest tuna served exactly at the optimal sushi temperature for flavor and “melt in the mouth” tuna and outstanding rolls. Our favorite were the 9 piece tuna sashimi, futomaki roll, dragon roll, age dashi dofu (tender tofu in special sauce), and har gar (shrimp from dim sum menu). The service was outstanding, and the owner’s recommendations were perfect. Very friendly waittress/manager

Stuck out of the way off the vibey Long Street, it's easy to overlook Minato. It doesn't look like much, but the food more than makes up for the relative lack of decor and ambience.

We came with our own wine, for which we were charged corkage, but I did not see their wine list. The restaurant was not full, but it is advisable to book.

We were very well attended to by the lady manager, and started with a plate of endamame beans, succulent and sweet, the best I have had in CT.

The manager recommended the tuna rather than the salmon sashimi, for very good reason.
This was not your pale yellowfin variety, but a deep sea tuna, with a delicious dark red meat. A rare treat.

All the other dishes we had were excellent and attractively presented. Unfortunately they don't publish their menu on line, so I can't remember all that we had. Suffice it to say that you will not be disappointed, no matter what dish you order.

Definitely worth a repeat visit!

We found this place by luck, while other restaurants were fully booked this place was empty.

The place is located inside a building. With the open kitchen, the wooden table and the kimono on the wall, the atmosphere is simple and we feel like home.

The owner of a restaurant is a Chinese lady very kind, who gave us great advice regarding the menu and the catch of the day.

I have taste the most amazing bluefin sashimi, including o-toro, which is the fatty part of the tuna.

It was so fresh and melting in the mouth !

I can only recommend this place because of the freshness of the food and the kindness of the owner.

I will definitely come back again!

Just when you thought Cape Town's Long Street could not deliver up any more gems, this unassuming little restaurant serves you the most delicious sushi in a bamboo boat.

There are no doubt many fine sushi restaurants in the West: I’ve sampled more than a few in the US and Europe.  Minato Sushi, tucked away off trendy Long Street in Cape Town, surely ranks among the best.  I’ve been a happy customer for over 20 years and have never been disappointed.  Last night was no exception, with a fantastic (and rare, in SA) helping of Toro nigiri on offer.  The voluptuous cuts of fresh fish, the perfectly balanced rice, the unpretentious and cosy ambience and the warmth and generosity of the owners make this one of my favourite restaurants.
