“Great Mountain views”
Reviewed 21 February 2012

close to Company Garden, 15 min walk to Long Street. The hostel is divided into three buildings, the main one with reception, bar, kitchen etc. (dorms and some double rooms) and two smaller ones a few hundred meters away (only private ensuite rooms, also have a kitchen). We had a nice ensuite room in one of the smaller buildings for a few days, and after our SA roundtrip stayed in a double room (shared bath) in the main building. Unfortunately, the latter was next to the bar and quite noisy until late, so avoid taking that room. Otherwise a nice relaxed place with good Table Mountain views from the terrace and a reasonable breakfast buffet for 35 Rand. Swimming pool (but the water was a little murky...), nice BBQ on Fridays, WiFi available.

Room Tip: do not take the double room next to the bar!

Very affordable food and breakfast buffet.
The dorm was very clean and so were the bathrooms and showers.
Only get 1 hour of free internet a day.
The bar area has a lot of atmosphere but they are also very strict about closing time, which means you have peace and quite after a certain time.
Safes and lockers in the dorms.
Overall a great place to stay!

I stayed here with friends and it met all our needs. The main hostel is very secure and the location is pretty good. Staff were really friendly and helped us to plan trips out to see the sights. Rooms were reasonably clean and the bathrooms were OK, clean enough for a few nights. There was good bar food available but plenty of restaurants etc nearby. You can book day trips with the lodge, we did a couple but found they were a bit overpriced, could probably get cheaper elsewhere. The accommodation itself though was spot on, would definitely stay again if I was in Cape Town! :)

Helpful staff, very clean and comfortable, very good bar and breakfast, 1 hr. free WIFI per day, beautiful patio and yard, 2 Ashanti "houses" 2 blks away, 2 blks from Company Gardens, museums, 3/4 mile from central Cape Town and an African market (be sure to bargain!), 2 blks from restaurants, stores (food, liquor - no sale on Sunday, ice-cream.

Room Tip: Check out the 2 houses - Ashanti 1 and 2.

The old house is very nice with beautiful stairs. We didn't get a chance to use many of the amenities so we can't speak for them.

We rented a double with ensuite. The room was not the cleanest, they forgot pillowcases, the bathroom smelly with a bad door.

We thought we might stay longer but checked out after one night. It is expensive we found and not a great location. Stay in Greenpoint if you can it has more to offer in the area and is still a short walk to Long street.

I stayed here after a few months on the road in west Africa, is a good place to meet fellow travellers, free wifi, the bar is ok with pool table, dorm rooms clean and the location good.

Not a bad looking place when you first walk in, which is ruined by the staff, unfriendly and not helpful, only had one helpful staff member the entire time. No one told me about the hostel facilities ie laundry or breakfast or even where the washrooms were. They charge for renting a towel which is ridiculous.
The bar staff and very cliquey and only talk to their buddies. The showers had band aids and other gross messes in them.
The rooms were nice.
There are so many great hostels in cape town best skip this one
