We only had one night at Parker Cottage but wish we had more. Great location, lovely rooms, beautifully decorated. We choose this guest house because of the good reviews on tripadvisor and it lived up to and beyond our expectations. Breakfast was our best in South Africa

We were originally scheduled to stay in an apartment, but ended up in a beautiful room here at Parker Cottage. The breakfasts were sumptuous and healthy -- a perfect start to the day. I loved that we could help ourselves to drinks and snacks anytime, as it made the place feel that much more like home. The sitting areas were comfortable and relaxing, and we had a chance to meet other guests and share travel stories. The restaurant recommendations were great too! Parker Cottage is walking distance to many sites, but if you rent a car, there's plenty of secure street parking too (just use common sense and not leave anything in the car for potential break-ins). If we visit Cape Town again, I intend to stay here again!

We stayed 6 nights at Parker Cottage and loved it. Located in a peaceful area, walking distance from Long Street, the Company Gardens, bars and restaurants, it is a lovely place to stay while in Cape Town. The house has charm, the rooms are nice and the breakfast is very good and will keep you going. Phil and Liz are amazing hosts and are extremely helpful in providing information and assisting you in planning your trip. Their suggestions for other parts of our trip in South Africa were always good. We really felt at home with them and would love to go back. A cosy place to stay. You will enjoy!

Just a quick summary: We felt very familial here! Very Nice: A lot of space beside your private room in the house to walk around, sit, drink wine ect. ect.!

My girlfriend and I found a good deal on airfare to Cape Town and booked the trip within a few weeks of departing. We leaned heavily on guidebooks for accommodations outside of Cape Town, but arrived at Parker Cottage solely through the helpful reviews here on TripAdvisor. Every positive review here is to be believed. Phil and Liz are amazing hosts: from custom tailoring our stay and travel within the city to making amazing rice milk cappuccinos for my vegan girlfriend! The wine cocktail social hour every other night was a great chance to get to know the hosts as well as the other guests from around the world. We will recommend Parker Cottage to anyone we know that travels to Cape Town.

Room Tip: Since we booked rather last minute the only available rooms were the cosy rooms, of which we chose t...

Oh yes, the rice milk cappucino! What an invention. The taste was all there but the presentation, for the lack of foam, was a little compromised, shall we say :-) Yes, the Cosy rooms are our economy rooms and seeing as Parker Cottage wasn't built as a hotel but as a family home, we've priced the rooms which are on the entrance corridor lower than those off it.

From the moment we arrived at Parker Cottage we were in love with the place! The welcome we received from Liz was second to none, she sat with us for a little while and asked what we wanted to experience in Cape Town and advised us of where to go and what to see whilst there. We met Phill later and i have to say what a great couple they are, they obviously enjoy what they are doing. The accommodation was faultless as was the service, the food etc. It was the finishing touches that made Parker Cottage so unique, the deco is beautiful through out the house, plenty of stain glass windows and other original features. We stayed in the pomegranate room-quite spacious with lovely size bed and a great onsuite shower room. Also managed to have a peak at another room and it was noticable that whilst all the rooms are very different they were all decorated to a great standard. Breakfast was a wonderful experience, never rushed always laid back, sitting outside in the lovely little garden you will be presented with a menu off which you can order as little or as much as you want and there is always a different daily special(i ordered the fruit & honey covered waffle). The table is covered with a crisp clean white cloth laid out with elegant china crockery, pretty napkin rings etc. There is also an honesty bar in the kitchen with wine, beer, soft drinks etc to which you help yourself and write down on a little notebook what you have drunk you will then be billed at the end of your stay and with prices at approx £2 for a good quality wine or beer i dont think anyone could complain. Its a little way out for the V&A waterfront but we used taxi,s (approx £6 each way) and if you consider that the rate of staying at Parker Cottage is below what accommadation could cost you at V&A it really is a no brainer. You would never experience this type of hospitality, warmth, welcome or personal touch in any hotel.
Parker Cottage just FEELS like home away from home-i can't really discribe it, you will have to go there for yourself and see/feel what i mean-you wont be dissapoined i promise!
When we go back to Cape Town (& thats a when not an if as its a wonderful city) we would' nt even consider booking anywhere else.
Thank you Phill, Liz and all the staff.............................you made a great holiday perfect!!

Liz was delighted to know how much the design of the rooms and house caught your eye. It's not been an easy task taking the original sombre decor of this elegant property and turning it into a light filled beauty, whilst retaining its Victorian features, but I think Liz has done it rather well! The waffle special's a good one, isn't it? I always ask Babalwa to 'make a mistake' with one when we're doing it. Just so I can check it's OK, of course :-) Thanks for a lovely review.

Parker Cottage is undoubtedly the best bed & breakfast in the Cape Town city bowl.
Not only are the rooms and overall facilities beautifully decorated and well maintained, but the entire setting and atmosphere screams charm, elegance and warm hospitality. Phil is also extremely helpful (he spent a good part of Sunday morning recommending good restaurants in the city). If you're looking for the perfect Cape Town city centre B&B, then I'd absolutely recommend Parker Cottage. It's an absolute gem!

Room Tip: The Koi Pond room offers classic charm and comfort, and delightful views of the cottage's little...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Welcome to Parker Cottage! We’re a little different than the usual hotel or guesthouse experience. Rather than being just a conventional ‘place to sleep’, we offer a very much unplugged, urban retreat right in the creative heart of Cape Town. So although we offer free and fast internet, we don't do minibars, piped music or even reception desks. Think of us like a country house in the middle of the city. We’re the kind of place where you can rediscover the art of conversation, endless breakfasts and total serenity. Parker is a social place too: our legendary free wine evenings occur at least twice a week and there’s no ‘cut off’ time for our gourmet breakfasts either. ... more   less
