Sadly this was a flying visit on the way to Sabi Sands but it is a fabulous place to stay. Staff were superb, very helpful and the interior design and paintings added to the ambience of the place. We do not hesitate to recommend Four Rosmead and we need/will go back to fully appreciate what it has to offer.

From the moment you step through the front door we were given a lovely warm welcome by Sonja. Beautiful property, the standard of furnishings and cleanliness was second to none. Relaxing indoor and outdoor spaces. They were more than happy to store our bike boxes and allowed us to hold the room until our departure late in the afternoon. Jade was always on hand to help with anything. Wonderful breakfasts too. I would have no hesitation on recommending this beautiful property.

We stayed 3 nights in this very pleasant and comfortable guesthouse in a nice area of Capetown with very good restaurants in the immediate surrounding. The staff was very helpful with advice to make the best of our plans. Due to water shortage unfortunately the swimming pool was closed, but you can only blame the wheather.

Superb boutique hotel nestling in the foothills of Table Mountain. Lovely bedrooms, great bathrooms and superb breakfasts. Omelettes particularly good. Excellent base from which to explore Capetown and the Cape Peninsula. Sonia, Jade and Nadine are happy to recommend restaurants which you should book from home in order to be certain of securing a reservation. We also found a super guide online by googling “the best restaurants in Capetown - where to eat in 2017” which gives all 133 Capetown restaurants that made the cut for the 2018 edition of Eat Out magazine. We enjoyed and can recommend La Tete, Zenzero and The Stack, all three of which can be reached within 15 minutes by taxi (best to download the Uber app before you go if you don’t already have it).

The Four Rosmead team also booked a Cape Peninsula and City Tour for us. Both were with the African Eagle Tour Company. The Cape Peninsula Tour was excellent while the City Tour was a complete waste of time and money. I have to express some disappointment that Four Rosmead didn’t advise against the City Tour and reproduce our experience below as a cautionary tale for fellow travellers.

African Eagle’s City Tour should be avoided at all costs Our guide collected us at 0810. It then took 45 minutes to pick everyone else up only to discover that half of us spoke French and half wanted to go to a museum instead of Table Mountain. There isn’t actually a huge amount to view in the city itself. We enjoyed the brightly coloured houses of the Cape Malay Bo-Kaap district but were only given 5 minutes to absorb it all which wasn’t even time for a coffee. The outside of Castle of Good Hope is not exactly going to set the world on fire and there is nothing really to see in District Six, which was declared a whites only area and bulldozed in 1966. Our guide then took us up to Table Mountain at 1130 where we had to queue for one and a half hours for the cable car. The views from the top were stunning as expected but it was simply crawling with tourists. By the time we returned to the lower cable station our guide had had to go (it was a half day tour) leaving us to make our own way back to the city. Difficult to escape the view that we had gone at the wrong time of day and that our guide must have known this. Much better, I suspect, would have been to take the first cable car up to Table Mountain at 0800 (most Tripadvisor reviewers recommend this) and then see Capetown itself at leisure by the hop on hop off City Tour bus.

Four Rosmead is an outstanding boutique hotel. It excels in all aspects of accommodation and service, and the staff are most helpful on anything the visitor to the Cape Town area might wish to know. I recommend it without hesitation.
