This lodge is rated #3 of "Bed and Breakfasts" in Constantia by Trip Advisor and I would not argue with that at all. My problem was that my travel agent recommended it as a "hotel" which it is not.( you have to order dinner in the morning,if you want it from a very restricted choice) and if you want anything by the pool you have to go to reception and order it and again, a very limited choice.
The lodge has very good bedrooms, with turn down service complete with chocolate and weather forecast! I particularly liked the spacious and well appointed bathroom, fully stocked with appropriate toiletries. One tip, be careful if you us the laundry service which is inordinately expensive!
Breakfast is taken on the terrace with an adequate, but unexciting breakfast buffet. The staff are very anxious to please and attentive.
The main building is low rise and in Cape Dutch style, but the other, new buildings are somewhat bland architecturally. The 2 swimming pools are very small, but good sun loungers are provided.
The gardens are pretty and well looked after.
We much appreciated being allowed to keep our room later than check out as our flight was at night.
Overall, very good accommodation and with friendly staff.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the pool have their own sun loungers

Dear Mr and Mrs Freedman
Many thanks for writing on tripadvisor. We are a small boutique hotel, which offers dinner, a three course set menu, which changes daily, We have brought in offering a choice of main meal, to try and accommodate choices.....guests are always welcome to ask for anything they specifically enjoyed off the menu, the chef always tries to accommodate special requests.
Being an Old Cape Dutch style house in architecture, we have added and expanded within keeping to the original building, as modernizing the building too much will loose some of "Glen Avon's Old World Charm".
Our laundry, is expensive, considering that we are in the middle of the worst drought that Cape Town has seen, and we have to use water sparingly. We have had to put covers on our pools, to help with evaporation, otherwise we would have to close the swimming pools completely.
Glad you enjoyed your stay with us, and we do hope that you choose a boutique hotel again rather than a bigger hotel on your next visit to Cape Town. Bigger hotels are not accommodating in late check out or early check in, whereas we have a bathroom and luggage store specially for this.
Kind regards
Wendy

My brother from London, who has stayed many nights at this hotel, recommended it to us for the couple of nights that we were in Cape Town. We loved the location convenient to all the wineries in Constantia, the delightful room with good air conditioning, and relaxing by the pool.

Beauty and Livison in the restaurant were particularly welcoming to us.

My two children and I stayed at Glen Avon for 6 nights over the Christmas 2016 / New Year 2017 period and had a wonderful time. The setting is beautiful with manicured garden and a warm pool, and the rooms were excellent. Every effort was made to accommodate the preferred diet of the boys and they felt thoroughly special, due to the attention given to them by the staff, especially at meal times.
A peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of Cape Town within easy reach of all the sites we wanted to see. We would definitely return!

We returned recently from another wonderful holiday in South Africa. For over three weeks we were at Glen Avon Lodge where we have been many times. Having been before we know the Lodge well, and we were looking forward to our return. We were not disappointed in any way. On this occasion our home was The Gables the new addition at Glen Avon and it was excellent in every way. Very modern, very bright and very well equipped with every comfort we required.
Our hosts David,Annette, and Wendy Stringer made us very welcome and during our stay we saw them frequently. Always very helpful and with a wealth of knowledge of the region were able to answer all our questions.
The breakfasts taken on the lovely terrace and the dinners in the evening were exceptional. Emmanuel the chef is excellent and the food is well prepared and presented and full of flavour. Beauty, Emmanuel's wife is now front of house and with her lovely personality and smile is always happy to talk to the guests and very helpful in arranging bookings or trips to the vineyards. Livison with his full of life approach and enthusiasm to everything at Glen Avon is a great person and always about to help with any problems or queries. Janet Livison's wife is now helping in the kitchen and is a quiet, thoughtful and lovely girl. Having mentioned the above two couples, all the staff who looked after our rooms, the beautiful gardens, everyone is a great asset in making Glen Avon the perfect place to stay. Galena who is married to David and Annette's son is supervisor of rooms making sure every room is spotlessly clean and well presented.
We cannot talk highly enough of Glen Avon and would certainly recommend the perfect stay. The Lodge is close to Cape Town, the airport, and the vineyards. We will certainly return and you will not be disappointed.
One of the many assets of Glen Avon it is always restful and peaceful, with beautiful gardens which are immaculate. When you stay here you feel fully secure and safe.
Having read a recent review of a guest, I am amazed at his negative attitude and comments and disagree totally. Nothing dull or dismal in our room and towels are fluffy, very large and very white.
See you at GLEN AVON!
