Dissappointed
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Apr 7, 2015
We visited Asara as day visitors on a previous visit to SA and fell in love with the place. Was looking forward to returning to spend a few nights there. Thank you for the upgrade, but even with the upgraded room it didn't live up to expectations. The room is a wonderful design = good view of lake and mountains but the furniture was stained..ugh ugh. Minibar is not filled, sucks if you've had too much wine and looking for something cold to drink in the middle of the night. WIFI very slow. Service at breakfast, painfully slow and really not good at all. They wanted us to hurry up so that they could set up for a wedding - no problem, but then the service was soooo slow - bit hard. Food was exceptionally average in all the restaurants and the deli prices were ridiculous. Even the labels on the goods in the Deli were so old - mustve been stocked since it opened. Having said all that the receptionist at checkin and out was really good and the staff are honest. Left expensive watch there - thought it was gone. They contacted me within 20mins of leaving to say they'd found it. Thank you for that.

First visit to Stellenbosch and to South Africa - loved the views, room, wine, food and the service at Asara - they could not do enough for us. Decent swimming pool too.

This place is run with great attention to detail. Wine tasting on your doorstep too is no bad thing. Loved the Asara Cape Fusion red.

Very well placed for touring around the area - including nearby Franschhoek.

If you do you want to leave! Rooms big and well designed bathrooms, bigger than most hotel rooms!
Open the doors and look over the lake the vineyards and then mountains, simply stunning.
The bar has a real chilled vibe and the food is excellent. The main restaurant is more formal but still chilled and again excellent food.
Obviously the main draw is the wine, so enjoy the tasting and the wine, then head over to the tea shop and enjoy afternoon tea with cakes. By which time you will need to lay down by the pool for forty winks!
Still don't understand why 3 prawns costs more than a cheese burger with fries though!

This was my first visit to Asara. We were welcomed with some of the estate's great wines and shown to our rooms, overlooking a lovely courtyard. Breakfast the next morning was a lazy affair, with a great choice of continental and egg breakfast. Too soon it was time to go.

We are wrapping up a way too short stay at Asara. The wine estate is unbelievably gorgeous, with the vineyard being set against a man made lake and the mountains behind. The hotel upgraded us to a standard room, which has a balcony overlooking the vineyard. The rooms are huge and modern, with fantastic bathrooms. If I lived local, this would be where I'd spend my anniversary or other special occasion.

A lovely hotel, picturesque in its surroundings with fantastic views over the Stellenbosch countryside. Nice pool, great running / walking routes around the wines, fun wine tasting. Would definitely recommend the horse riding we did at franschoek (paradise stables). If there is a negative, the wifi is awful - but that's what you expect in SA.
