Very friendly staff and wifi works. The rooms are quite big compared to most other city hotels. The check-in process was simple and efficient, I dropped my bags and within a few minutes I was online. Parking can be a bit difficult.

We stayed as a small group spread across 5 rooms. Some had access to a courtyard and some to a balcony. The ones in the centre part of the hotel are quiet, but the ones around the edge can be very noisy as the hotel is situated on Dorp Street between the R310 and the R44, and is used as a rat run both in the mornings and evenings.

It is also a good 10-15 minute walk to the centre of town and most of the restaurants.

The staff were nice, breakfasts were good, with eggs, omelettes etc. made to order. Always plenty of fruit and the coffee was good.

There is a bar, but its usually closed by about 10:50 or so.

The wifi was a bit weird, 500MB allowed, and then you had to pay. That was about what it needed to download the UK Times.

The pool was covered over and closed during our stay and due to the water restrictions there were no plugs in the bath or washbasin.

We had some laundry done, very reasonably priced and returned within 4 hours. That was excellent.

Room Tip: Stay away from the Dorp Street side.

Nice comfortable hotel, the deluxe rooms are duplex style with the bed upstairs, easy 5-10 minute safe walk into centre of Stellenbosch with it's eclectic restaurants and bars. Good for business as it is possible to see people in your room because of the duplex set up. Only downsides, WiFi is metered and you do get a bit of road noise.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms are very spacious.

Small but cosy hotel. Well situated on Dorp street, close to bars, restaurants and shopping. Rooms are spacious and service is very good. Uber will cost you only ZAR20 to go to the central part of Stellenbosch. Breakfast was quite good. I really loved the hotel and will surely be back when visiting Stellenbosh.

The Protea was close to town and it was fun to walk around to taste some of the phenomenal wine and shop. The furniture was a mix of odds and ends which made it all that more charming. Our room consisted of two floors so we felt as if we had more than ample room. The bed was very comfortable. The staff was attentive. We were looking for some wine after hours and one of the employees came back after her shift was over to get us a bottle. The wine costs are very reasonable, as well. We were at the end of the hotel which is closest to the street and it is somewhat noisy in the morning but we were up early to tour the wine country so it was not that disturbing. It was a bit cool, so we did not get to use the small pool. It is a great place to stop for a few days while visiting Stellenbosch and Franschhoek!
