Mark and Tina cater for events at the Casa de Povo and, in addition, provide a fish and chip lunch on Wednesdays - the fish was perfectly cooked when we visited and the batter was light and crisp. Perfect!

A descriptive English translation is hard to find. "Town Hall" sounds like the local authority offices and so "Village Hall", being the building where there is a large space for an audience or for dancing, and a stage for entertainers, is more appropriate. It is the place where the people of Moncarapacho and its surrounds come for concerts, dancing and the many activities, from bridge for beginners to Scottish Country Dancing that attract both native Portuguese and expats.
One can also enjoy the excellent meals prepared by chef, Mark, including Fish and Chips on Wednesday lunchtimes (Mark's batter is to die for) and traditional Sunday roast lunches. These can be enjoyed inside the spacious dining room or on the roof terrace with a view all the way to the Atlantic Ocean.
"Confession Time" - I have lived within 6 kms of the Casa do Povo for more than 8 years and never been in until this week. It is an imposing building sitting above flights of steps (although disabled access is possible by another route) and so one cannot . just have a sneaky look in. Don't be shy. No-one in there will bite you. Quite the contrary. We enjoyed our fish and chips so much that we are booked for Sunday roast. Let Mark know that you are coming. You won't be disappointed.

In essence this is a hidden gem, though can be clearly seen, not many people know about it and what it provides.

This building has disabled access and people who are challenged with walking, there is a facility to drive your vehicle to the front of the building.

Some people come here for the splendid panoramic views over Moncarapacho and to the seas. These views can be accessed on two levels.

The first level is up one set of stairs to a huge outdoor decked viewing area, where one can enjoy the views from chairs or standing. These views range over Moncarapacho and the sea.

The top deck is harder as it involves several sets of stairs, however, on the second floor one can see the old clock mechanism, which has to be wound up every three days. When you get to the top, you stand under a covered top and tehre is a magnificant vista for 20 kilometers plus, to the seas and beyond.

This building has been maintained and improved over the years by the President of Casa do Povo(Joaquim Fernandes) and his team and they would be more than happy to provide you with information at the reception, which is at the front entrance.

Casa do Povo appreciates small gratuities to enable this great work to carry on, however, this is not compulsory.

There is a lot of activity going on here with the community with various activities as well.
