I stayed in the Mount Yalikavak apartment in July 2012 with my boyfriend (both aged 27)
The apartment itself has a very homely feel to it, has a great terrace which is perfect for relaxing on during the day with a book or in the evening over dinner and a bottle of wine.
The pool is only a minute away and was very quiet with us being the only users most of the time (opening times 10am-9pm)
The apartment complex is situated on a steep hill as most of the apartments in Turkey so a car is advised although we did walk down one evening but wouldn't walk back up in the dark. The car we hired from Boomerangs was 150GBP for the week which was great value!
A taxi to the centre of Yalikavak will cost you roughly 13-15tl from the apartment which is roughly 4-5GBP and will only take around 5 minutes. The area of Yalikavak is very nice and relexed and I was suprised as it wasn't too busy or hectic which was great which meant there was always a pick of the spots on the beach.
The main public beach is great as most places let you use the sunbed if you order a drink. We found a great place which let you also use the pool to the very smart apartments which had free wifi and tyou could switch to the beach side any time. They will have board that says free pool, beach and wifi.
Alternatively head to Dodo beach club which costs 70tl to get in (24GBP) and a 10tl parking fee, however this then is used as a tab once in there. The drinks are a little pricier than at the puplic beck (coca cola = 10tl =3.30GBP) however the whole day is a great one, although if you want a relaxing time the music gets very loud around 5pm.
There are lots of sunbeds to choose from, inclduign hammocks in the shade, cushion beds, raised beds etc...
The water is crystal clear with lots of little fishes to take look at.
The restaurants closest to the apartment on the front I would say are a little over priced compared to those in the centre, although Aquarium has a very nice deck that goes out over the sea that you can dine from. Our meal here cost 150tl (50GBP) for starter, main and 2 drinks, although in the centre of yalikavak it would only cost quite a bit cheaper. The centre isn't loud or very touristy so I would definately say head into the centre on most nights, for a romantic meal or stoll.
The Marnina is a great place to stroll to look at the huge yaughts and boats.
Bodrum centre can be accessed by the Dolmus bus from the centre which cost 5tl per person for one way (1.70GBP) it will take roughly 30-40 minutes depending how many people they pick up along the way, and the best thing is they run every 20 minutes until 5am back from Bodrum.
Bodrum centre is a little more touristy and crowded but still has very nice restaurants all along the sea front. We went to ' The Garden' which was very nice and they gave us a 10% discount and the food was great.
There are lots of shops and bars in this area so theres lots to choose from, but expect it to be very crowded between 9pm-1am The streets seem to get busiest during this time.
I would reccomend this apartment to a couple of friends looking for a relaxed time in a vey nice part of Turkey.
The apartment is very well kept, nice and clean and has everything you need, including a very large fridge, tv with DVDs, washing machine, ironing board, bedding, play toys for the kids etc....
