“Great horseback riding experience”
Reviewed 12 September 2011

We had a great time on this tour. The driver picked us up on time and the tour lead and all of the staff were great. The ride itself was gorgeous - right in the foothills of the Andes with gorgeous views. The horses were very easy and gentle. We actually got to run a little (trot? cantor? not sure what it's called), which was very fun (and not something I've ever gotten to do on a horseback riding trips in the US and Mexico). The light breakfast was really some biscuits and Mate so I do recommend that you eat a good breakfast beforehand, which we did and were fine. Also, the hills were very cold even though it was super sunny and very warm in Mendoza, so dress with layers. Sunscreen is also a must since the sun is very strong in the elevation. The van had some mechanical problems on the way back so we were delayed a little, but it worked out fine and we all had a great time hanging out a little longer in the mountains. Hopefully they do fix the van though! All in all, a great experience, gorgeous views and beautiful photos and we were so glad we did it!

“Bucket-list good horseback ride”
Reviewed 8 April 2011

I didn't arrange the tour but had the pleasure of spending an afternoon at the ranchito with a group. Even after a week of eating asado, I went back for thirds at lunch. Their chef served up some wonderful carne and was the first to present some meat "con sangre" for us silly Americans who like ours medium-rare.
The ride with guide Juan, who spoke perfect English, was a highlight of my trip. The gaucho brought out sturdy mountain horses saddled up with simple English style saddles and thick sheepskins. We were given good instructions on what to do. Even a complete novice will soon feel comfortable on these well-trained horses. My horse was extremely responsive and we had no problems keeping up, and those with more experience were allowed to break away and trot up the path. We rode slowly up through the hills, getting a splendid view of the valley and even being visited by a wild mare and her foal. We stopped halfway for mate and Juan explained the customs surrounding this traditional drink. There was time to climb up a hill and take photos overlooking the valley. It was breathtaking.

“Great excursions to Alta Montana and the bodegas of Mendoza!”
Reviewed 25 March 2011

We were in Mendoza in February and had organized 2 excursions with Kahuak, to Alta Montana in regular service and to the bodegas in private service.
The people from Kahuak are young, friendly and very dynamic. They are there to help you.
The excursion to Alta Montana was breathtaking! I felt like I was in a different world with all the wonderful sights!! It was an amazing day, one of the most memorable ones of our trip in Argentina!
Our private day tour to the bodegas was great! The tour at Altavista winery is very interesting, and we love the Torrontes wine ;-)) Our lunch at Chandon was a gastronomic delight!
Our guides were very knowledgeable on both excursions. They know the region and all the interesting stories!!
We certainly recommend Kahuak for your excursions in Mendoza region!

“Horseback Riding is a must-do in Mendoza”
Reviewed 22 March 2011

My wife and I did the half day horseback riding tour about two weeks ago when we were staying in Mendoza and we had a fantastic time! I booked the trip through email and the communication was great. We got picked up at our hotel at 9:30 AM and got dropped off at 3:00 PM, so this was a very full half day and really all we wanted to do; we're glad we didn't do the full day because we probably would have gotten back at 6 or 7.

The tour: They pick you up at your hotel and drive about 45 minutes Southwest to the base of the Andes, where they have a little rancho where the horses gather. There were about 15-20 of us on the tour. The horses were excellent and very sure-footed. We went on about a 2.5 hour ride through the mountains and stopped once for mate and biscuits. The scenery was unbelievable. We got so many good pictures and Kahuak also has their own photographer, who takes pictures along the way and will sell you a CD of your pics at the end of the day for US$20. We bought the CD and are so happy that we did. It's hard to take good pics yourself when you're bouncing along on a horse. The pics that he took were really awesome. At the end of our half day, we got in the van and they dropped us back at the hotel.

Positives: The riding was awesome, scenery breathtaking, and the guide was great and she spoke good English. She gave the tour in Spanish and English. Orlando was the owner and gaucho and he and his dogs came along with us. Nice guy as well, but not sure how much English he spoke so we didn't chat too much. The price was very good. I think it was $140 pesos pp and was a good value for what you get. This price includes round trip transport.

Negatives: The van driver wasn't very personable, but this may be because he didn't speak much English. The van was also an hour late to our hotel. It would be helpful if they can time their transport better and give you a better estimate, but alas, this is Argentina time! The mate and biscuit 'breakfast' wasn't really a breakfast, so be sure to eat before you go or bring food with you. Also, bring water, as they didn't offer us a drop of water the whole day, which I thought was strange. A bottle of water here and there isn't too much to ask. It was 90F degrees out.

Conclusion: This trip is well worth the money. How often do you get to horseback ride through the Andes with a gaucho and then show your friends incredible pics when you return!?!
