I stayed at Maran for 4 nights while in town on business. I had been to parana once before and due to maran being full I stayed at the gran hotel parana. I had reviewed that as 3/5 but after staying at maran I should have gone 2/5. I give maran 3/5. No issues at check-in. I had a room on the 10th floor. First some of the buttons in the elevator take a few pushes to activate, and usually the height difference of the elevator to the floor is off a by an inch or 2 so be prepared to step up or down so you don't trip. Also the elevator buttons on the floor is just a call button not an up or down button. So if you are on floor 5 and call the elevator and get in you don't know if the elevator will go up or down. It opens either way. There was awkwardness with some colleagues when they were on a lower floor but then were carried up to 10 when trying to go down to the lobby and the. I got on at 10.
The room it's led was just ok. The carpet has seen better days and shows its age. I did have a sliding door and small balcony. This was helpful as the room was rather warm and only has central heat no AC. I had initially turned what I thought was the AC on. The "thermostat" just had an on/off switch and fan speed 1/2/3. In the center it looked like the temperature setting dial had been removed. I asked my colleagues and their rooms were the same. The bed was a bit hard for me, but I was able to manage. The shower was a bit small. The working desk was in an odd spot behind next to the door and trapped behind and closest/shelving area. There actually seemed to be a lot of shelving for such a small room but right when u walk in and the closet/shelving near the bed.
The breakfast is ok, bread, pastries. Ham cheese, yogurt, canned fruit and dry cereal. A sign said eggs were available on request but I didn't notice anyone having any. Went to the restaurant the first night for convenience and had some overcooked beef. It may have been a fluke but there decent restaurants in town to try.
I did go to the gym a few times. This was a 0/5. It was a small room with 1 treadmill that may have been 10yrs old. One bike and seated pedaller. There was also 1 weight machine. I'm guessing everything in this room was from when the hotel opened and all are lacking maintenance and in serious need of replacement. I used the treadmill a few times and attempted to use the weight machine. The weight machine did not work well at all and was not anchored. It is a multi-use machine with 1 central weight stack. It sounded like rust and sand when you pulled on anything. Not smooth at all, and the whole thing would move on the floor. It should be thrown away as someone could hurt themselves. Also there is a TV on the room from the early 2000s.
To top it off, this is the weirdest thing. You'll notice in the lobby some jazzy music playing as background. I sat in the lobby each morning when getting picked up, and then upon return. One evening I was waiting about 15min for a ride to dinner and then my taxi for departure was at 1pm so I sat in the lobby for about an hour (actually as I'm writing this review). There is only 1 song that plays over and over and over in a continuos loop. It is a female jazzy version of Bob Marley's - Get Up Stand Up. Over and over and over....I can't believe the front best workers don't go insane! At present it has been playing for 35min straight and I have to believe it plays all day everyday.
Also of note is that checkout is at 10am which seemed quite early.
It may be the best place to stay to parana but it is only average for me and my expectations were set realistically ahead of time and this still came in as average.
