Gran Hotel Tourbillon
Ranked #28 of 50 Hotels in Puerto Iguazu
Reviewed 31 March 2016

We had made a booking for 5 nights at this hotel since it looked so nice in the pictures. Not a good idea. First of all the hotel is located outside Puerto Iguazu and there is nothing within walking distance that is worth visiting.

When we came into our room we were "greeted" by a sign that said that we would have to pay a huuuuge fine if we brought or own food and drinks into the room. Unfortunately the restaurant served food that is so boring and so not tasty that it is ridiculous. So we had to bring our own food (we sneaked it in so that they couldn't fine us :-)). During our stay we couldn't find anything on the menu that was ok.

The staff that worked at the hotel seemed so bored that they almost fell asleep. When we after three days decided that we had to find another place to stay at, no one reacted and asked why we check ot two days prior our original check out date, they just nodded and fell asleep again.

The swimingpool is the only thing that was ok with this resort since it was large and kids friendly.

We have just returned from three days of vacation in Iguazu and unfortunately stayed at the Tourbillon. The room was kind of old fashioned and mold close to the window, the bathroom dirty and the food average (both breakfast and dinner). The whole place needs a good makeover I would suggest. All in all it was not worth the price we have paid. Title says it all: don't go there!

This hotel just wasn't good. Room was dingy, bed saggy, bathroom not cleaned well (used soap re-wrapped to appear new), A/C very poor. It just had a creepy feeling, overall. Walls were very thin. The lobby was once modern and well-done, but needed a facelift. The dining room was fine, although the included breakfast was very weak: little variety, limited fruit and protein offered, and dry, boring baked goods. Didn't try the dinner. Pool area was sort of nice, but I didn't actually go in the pool. I saw a friend's hotel just up the road, which was much nicer for the price.

Do not stay in this hotel. It is a complete nightmare. 4 star hotel is a complete joke. It's not even a 1 star. I would probably think twice if I had to locate my dog in this hotel. No one speaks English, no help with the luggage, the hotel completely stinks of mold. Room which are not occupied are open for ventilation purposes. Room are dirty the bed sheets and pillows coverd in stains and so on. The swimming are is a complete disaster. The sun beds dirty, no towels, sun beds dirty, no bar. Avoid Avoid Avoid. Lasted 2 hours had to change to a different hotel. Still got charged for the whole night.

Worst experience ever in South America. Hotel not close to anything. A good distance from downtown where good food are located. Not close to the falls either. Hotel staff not friendly or accommodating at all. We are travelling with seniors and there was no one to help us with our luggages. Takes a long time for the airconditioning to cool, beds are small and uncomfortable. Bathtubs old and worn out with broken handles. Breakfast buffet composed of 15 different kinds of bread, no bread toaster, a dish of ham, a plate of cheese and 4 different kinds of sliced fruits.
A complete rip off. Go for another hotel!

Each room they showed us was full of mold. Perhaps the hotel was ok when built but the property is poorly kept up. The two view you have is of the road and a cesspool in the back. The more expensive villas are right next to the cesspool. Try somewhere in the center. And the breakfast was nothing but day old bread and cold coffee. Stay away.

Make sure you have local currency - the staff are rude and very unhelpful. No English was spoken. rooms were clean but need a refurb. Would not recommend this property to anyone. Disappointing as the falls are so amazing. Save you money and book the Sheraton on in the park itself. You need 2 full days here so you can do the Argentina side and the Brazil side of the falls.
