Hotels in this town are quite expensive and there is really no other place to stay after the drive from Bariloche to here unless you return to Bariloche the same day. We looked at multiple hotels. We decided on Le Chatelet Hotel. The room was on the smaller side but very clean and nice. There was free parking on the street and a great restaurant across the street. Best of all the price was perfect for one night. You are waling distance to the main town square. If you want a nice room for a good price I recommend this hotel. The staff were very nice.

The first impression was very good - a small-ish 'alpine' style place, with an informative host with very good English.

The room was basic and the lack of air-con on a hot day made the night somewhat uncomfortable; the windows would only open a little and had no screens. Bathroom small. There is a 1 person elevator for taking bags up - a good and unexpected feature.

Wi-Fi only in the common area downstairs. Breakfast very good.

If it had aircon, this place would be a '5' for me, surprising on the upside. However sleep quality is important and it only just made a 4.

The hotel is nice and has a good location in town. But, in the summer, San Martin is hot and the rooms are stifling. It could really use air conditioning. The bathroom was very small. The breakfasts were basic at best.

We stayed here during our roundtrip.
The hotel is situated well inside the village. The square and the mainstreet and the lake are all within walking distance.

The room we had was of a very well size! Beds were very comfortable. Same thing for the bathroom. All kept clean well also.
Staff very friendly and helpfull.
Breakfast was also very good with enough to choose.
Also nice area is the big lobby area with fireplace.

We stayed for two nights at Le Chatelet in San Martin de los Andes. We paid US$143 per night, including the 21% VAT (Value Added Tax). We prepaid for our room through Booking.com.

Here is what I liked about Le Chatelet:

Location: This hotel is located in the heart of San Martin. Once you park your car, it is easy to walk to the restaurants or tourist information centers.

The Room: We stayed in room 303, which was a nice big room on the top floor. It had a clean, modern bathroom. The room contained a small fridge and a safe where you could store your valuables. It was quiet enough that we slept with the windows open.

Breakfast: The breakfast buffet was well stocked and had some tasty foods.

The Staff: The hotel workers we met spoke English and were friendly and helpful.

Parking: Although getting in and out of the Le Chatelet parking lot requires a little bit of manuevering, we had no problem getting a spot each night to park our car.

What I did not like:
The Mattress: I am really surprised that a place that seems as nice as Le Chatelet would have such a horrible mattress on one of its beds. The mattress tilted to one side, as if an elephant had slept in the bed for 10 years. We ended up stuffing pillows underneath the mattress to prop it up, so that I wouldn't roll off onto the floor.

WiFi: On the second night of our stay, the WiFi did not work at all.
Overall, I thought this was a great place to stay. The sad condition of the mattress was a disgrace, but everything else about the hotel was terrific. I assume that the mattresses in the other rooms are in much better condition; hopefully the management will replace the mattress in room 303 soon.
