Dear Raul greeted us personally on New Year's Day at his woodland Hosteria high above the town of San Martin de los Andes. It's a lovely spot this, with glorious views of the Lake below and personal patios from which to enjoy them. Raul tries hard, staying up late until his guests are home and personally offering tips and marked maps for sight seeing. His Tea House too is a wonder. Beautifully appointed, it's the original home of an intrepid Englishwoman who settled there in the 1930s and became instrumental in getting the site recognised as a national park. Old photographs of her adorn the walls beside the large stone fireplace and the house, including its bathroom, remain little changed since her day. All that said though, the Hosteria is expensive for its offerings. The breakfast is downright poor and the rooms small. The driveway needs work and generally the place could probably do with an injection of funds. But we'd support it again - because we slept so well in the woods and woke up to that stunning view and the friendly faces of Raul and his staff.

Room Tip: All the rooms have lake views with private patios.

We stayed at Arrayan for 3 nights. Service was impecable. The grounds are gorgeous and the rooms are decorated in a minimalistic and tasteful way. Overall a beautiful place. The view from the suites is breathtaking.

Found this gem by accident while taking a drive around San Martin. If it does not have the best views of a te shop in Patagonia then I would love to see the competition. Only had coffee/tea and cakes but they were superb and the service exceptional. Well worth a drive and sone time.
