If you like the colour purple this is the hotel for you. The walls are painted purple. The pictures on the wall are purple with purple frames. The bed head was purple.. There were two shades of purply table cloths on our bedroom table. The shampoo ( I kid you not) is purple. I'm basically indifferent to the colour purple but there is sometimes too much of a good thing.

The hosts are charming and extremely helpful. We had a potential problem with our hire car that they nipped in the bud. Breakfasts are OK. Location is beautiful with great views of the lake. There is a busy road outside but you dont hear it in the rooms.

We weren't too happy that during our four night stay the towels were not changed once. There was no heated rack so this was not very nice.

Also you should be aware there are no tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms and we failed to find any downstairs. It would be nice to come in after a tiring day and make a tea. The weekend we were there the owners were away and the weekend staff were nowhere to be seem when we got back so we couldnt even ask for a tea to be made for us.
To balance this everywhere was spotlessly clean. They also have a spa where they offer rebirthing if that's your thing.

On the day we left we were asked to pay some sort of local Bariloche eco tax in cash - no credit cards accepted. It was unclear whether this was a voluntary or mandatory tax but when we explained that we simply didnt have enough cash it was waived.

Bariloche is a premier ski resort and like all ski resorts the hotels were not particularly good value for money. We paid less to stay in pretty luxury full service hotels in the north of Argentina so if you go to Bariloche don't expect amazing value for money!

Having said that the location is spectacular so just put up with lower standards of service like towels and enjoy!

My husband and i stayed in this hotel in april 2017 and have to admit that we were surprised by the beautiful views and the kindness of the hotel owners, Luis and Paula. The hotel is very cozy and peaceful, with some amazing views of the main lake in Bariloche. We are already planning to go back soon!

After a long direct flight from London and a fraught domestic connection to Bariloche we arrived tired and irritated. Louis couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. He even popped out to get a bottle of white wine for us. The next morning we met Paula who greeted us like long lost friends. Our room was very comfortable with a great view. Louis and Paula were charming and extremely helpful-organised an afternoon tour; found a car for us from small local company; advised where to eat and where to spend our day touring. If you like small comfortable hotels or B &Bs then look no further.

We stayed here for two nights last April. We can't say enough how wonderful Paula and Luis were.

Two things happened that could have really put a damper on our time in Bariloche. First, our flight to Bariloche from El Calafate was cancelled and we couldn't get on another flight until the following day. Paula and Luis were so understanding that we didn't have to worry. Second, we lost a credit card while in Bariloche, so paying our final bill ended up being slightly complicated. Again, our hosts were so patient, accommodating, and truly kind. We can't thank them enough!

What is more, the hotel is beautiful, the rooms have spectacular lake views, and the breakfast is delicious. Paula and Luis helped us book a tour and were happy to help with recommendations and advice. It is a little ways away from town, but Altuen is right along the main road where the bus goes, so it's no big deal.

We highly recommend Altuen and would be very happy to stay there again.

Luis and Paula go out of their way to make your stay is most memorable. The facilities are clean and modern, and the views from the breakfast room and bedrooms are breathtaking. The hotel is located on the western edge of Bariloche with easy access to hiking trails and scenic drives. Many excellent restaurants are within walking distance, including a great brewpub with a happy hour.

Room tip: All rooms have great lake views
