Dorm rooms (separated by gender) with in-room toilet and shower! Kept clean. Rooms are a decent size. Bottom bunks are a little tight (hard to sit up in since upper bunk is quite low). Lockers in room (bring your own lock). There is a free breakfast but it is minimal – tea/coffee and bread, jam and butter. I found the bread to be somewhat stale. Staff was friendly. Location is good, within easy walking distance of main strip. There is a supermarket nearby. The kitchen is equipped with all you need to self-cater including a fridge. There is a clothes washing machine and dryer. There are three shared computers for internet (can’t remember if there was wifi). Lots of areas to hang out. I found the hostel to be quiet at night.

The hostal is really good. It is well located, coming in from the airport we dropped people off at other hostals, that were located on rough roads where you were quite a walk uphill from the centre of town. This hostal is located really close to the middle of the town and is easy to access the bus station, supermarket, bars etc. The room sare not huge but there is enough space for your stuff, plus lockers etc. The breakfast is good, plenty of nice fresh bread. The location is really the best part I think, especially as you tend to be up early to take the trips to the glaciars etc.

In fact it is more a hotel than a hostel. Well located near main street in El Calafate. Aprox. 5-7 minutes walk from bus station. Nice, attentive staff, however, check-in personnel sometimes in overwhelmed by workload with buses of tourists (bad luck if you arrive at the same time as them). Large enough rooms, very clean, ours was quiet and confortable. Breakfast OK. There's free internet available. Advisable, especially considering other hotel offers and prices in El Calafate.

I arrived at this place on the recommendation of someone who hadn't stayed here but had visited.

It's a nicely designed, wooden building. The 4 bed dorm was ok. Although it smelt slightly bad. It had underfloor heating which I thought was a nice feature. There's a first floor lounge and a second floor kitchen and dining area (where none of the plug sockets worked). The one fridge would definitely be inadequate during high season as would the 3 twin gas hobs. There's a downstairs mini lounge with big screen tv. The wi fi signal was quite good throughout.

There's a kind of aparteid breakfast system. If you stay in a private room your breakfast is served on the first floor and includes yoghurt and cereal among other things. If you are a mere dorm dweller then your bread and black coffee is served in the second floor diner. The dorm bed cost 58 pesos.

The staff were a mixed bag. 2 of the 3 I encountered (a Brazilian girl and a guy named Bruno) were friendly and helpful. The 3rd was incredibly miserable and sour faced. She couldn't even bring herself to say hello when you came up to the desk and anything you asked of her seemed to be a hardship. In the end I would avoid asking her anything and go to one of the others whenever possible.

They do an 'alternative' tour to the glaciar which costs 190 not including the park entrance fee (75) so 265 total. I booked transport through Hostal Huemul which cost 65. So plus the 75 entrance and the boat ride (50) I paid a total of 190 for everything.

My stay here was ok but improvements could be made as detailed above. There is actually a sign in the hostel suggesting that travellers write tripadvisor reviews. Maybe they should actually take the time to read them and make changes accordingly.

There are two separate hostels under this name (and management). I stayed in the building pictured which was really nice. Rooms and sheets were super clean and it was pretty quiet so I got a good sleep. Tours are a little overpriced and you can definetly get better deals if you shop around. 3 out of 4 of the staff were really helpful and friendly, the other guy let the side down a little. There´s a supermarket nearby where you can buy drinks, food etc and staff are happy to let you chill out to all hours of the morning if you choose. Free breakfast like most hostels wasn´t up to much. Only thing that would really improve the place is a bar as that'd make the hostel a lot more sociable.

If you are booking a double with private bath - ask for one of the new rooms at the back. On our first stay (1 night), we had one of these and were pleased - the cost is high for a hostal ($72 or $60 with an HI card), but El Calafate is expensive so we were pleased with the room - good size, large shower, underfloor heating, etc. But on our return from Torres del Paine, we had one of the older rooms for 3 nights - the shower was so small you could barely move, and the hot water was flaky on a couple of days. We agree with other reviewers that the breakfast is below standard even for a hostal (and only free with a private double) and the kitchen facilities not great for such a large hostal. But the location is good, and we did their Alternative Tour to Perito Moreno Glaciar and would recommend it. We also did the Big Ice trekking with Hielo & Aventura and highly recommend this - an incredible experience going into the glaciar.
