Maybe because I live here and see this stuff all the time, I'm not as freaked out about the place. But my sister is from out of state and rants-and-raves about it. Some temporary exhibits, like Chihuly glass, are definitely worth going to see. It seems like they frequently have something going on. And I have gone back to the gift shop to buy things as gifts. (What a concept!)

Coming from the Chicago area, we felt as if we were on a different planet as we explored the varieties of cacti and other desert plants. We also spotted a roadrunner and some quail. Very cool. The butterfly exhibit was included in the price - it was nice, although we found the butterflies at the St. Louis Zoo to be more impressive. We stayed for 2.5 hours and did not see it all.

Excellent family event. Very well organized. A little difficult to traverse for older individuals (with a walking limitation). However they do offer electric carts. I got one for my Mom and she really enjoyed her evening.

Family with two teens. We had a great visit. So much to see. Allow at least two hours to see all areas. Immaculately kept grounds with a large variety of plants, flowers, cats, trees, etc. Staff was super friendly and willing to answer all our questions. Parking is very close to entrance. Small kids or large kids will like this place. We went hiking at Papago Park and then visited this place and so glad we did. They have an indoor butterfly exhibit. An on-site restaurant and nice gift shop. Just an all around nice place to visit. Definitely recommend a visit.

To see all the different types of plants that can survivor in the desert is amazing. We got there at the end of the blooming season for the plants and it was still amazing. Can only imagine how beautiful it would look when your there in full bloom.
It will take you at least 2 hrs to just walk though and not really pay attention to everything. The butterfly section was disappointing, the variety of the different species is minimum. The insectorioum in Deer Lake Newfoundland Canada, is much better. But to get out of the hot sun for a bit was nice.
I recommend visiting here while in Phoenix
