This was a good work-out and an impressive hike for being right in the city. Would definitely do again if in Phoenix.

This place is a great place for a fun workout with a view
Come prepared for climbing and bring water ...even if its cool outside.
The trail is pretty crowded but you will still get one heck of a work climb (up and down).
We went around 3:30 - 4:00pm and had no trouble finding somewhere to park.
As the sun starting going down the views and shadows on the surrounding mountain ranges were beautiful.
Port-o-let type toilets on site.

Everyone says parking is hard to find, but I must have been lucky and came at the right time because there were several available spaces when I drove up. Nonetheless, the Echo Canyon trail was very busy, and there were a lot of people there, some of them running up and down it. Most of the hikers are very helpful and considerate though. But if you prefer hiking alone and having quiet, this might not be the hike for you.

The hike is very challenging and strenuous. Yet the view from the top makes it rewarding. Be sure to bring plenty of water and wear good hiking shoes. I saw even some strong guys stumble in the rocks. Others told us that someone had to be medically evacuated earlier that day. Use caution -- it's a fun hike, but if you are not careful, it can be treacherous.

You can start at the cholla trail off 64th street for a more gradual assent or just pound up the rocky steeper side off mcdonald and tatum. the later has a lot less parking!

A definite must-do. Even though I didn't make it to the top, the vista was great. Parking is limited, but it doesn't take a super-long time to climb, so if you can't find a place, drive around, enjoy the sights, and try it again.
