“I hate to disagree”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 February 2012

I was very disappointed in Cafe Monarch. I had heard good things about it and most reviews are very positive so I was really surprised at how mediocre the meal was. The setting was pleasant and the staff were very nice but the food was not great. The shrimp were small, undercooked and tasteless, very poor quality. Other dishes used inexpensive ingredients and were uninspired. For a fixed price meal with limited choices it was not worth the money.

“Divine Dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 February 2012

After 3 days of conference food this was a truly marvelous evening! The staff were friendly, efficient and the food was FABULOUS. Fresh, well spiced, complex flavours, the food was a treat for the eyes as well as the tongue. The Chef is conscientious about special diets and food sensitivities. When he called back to confirm my reservation he took the time to enquire about any dietary requirements in my party & our waiter knew what they were when we arrived. If you want to experience a meal where the Chef truly has a passion for food, this is the place!

Book early, BYOB & enjoy.

“A gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 January 2012

Had a lovely lunch at this small gem. The chef does everything, even waiting tables. That's why there are only 14 seats. The food is imaginative and top quality. The hibiscus iced tea was amazing.

“Like having dinner at the chefs home and garden !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 January 2012

When I travel I am always searching for character ,warmth , charm- not to mention a interesting and tasty meal !There is no website , no opentable reservations and the owner and chef only takes cash and it is a prefix menu but dont despair it is totally worth your efforts !. The place is broken up into a couple buildings , we sat inside the newer area and it connects to the GEORGOUS back garden patio area with a large Chimnea with trowpillows on couches surrounding and tableclothed romantic tables (setup for tour viewing pleasure but too cold to stay outside) The price for the prefix 3 courses was uber reasonable and it is BYOb which also fab. It really is like going over to your chef freinds home for dinner -complete with him popping over to sit and chat with his guests ! What a sincere charmer he is ! Want to make a trip back to Arizona in the spring just to visit this place again as we went in January and enjoyed our wine outiside looking at the fire inbetween courses-the personable waiters come and retrieve you when each course comes !

“The food and the chef were exceptional.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 January 2012

We read the reviews, but this place exceeded expectations. If you can get a table in the main dining area next to the kitchen, do it. Chef Chris is a great one-man show to watch. He does it all... asks ahead of time of dislikes and allergies, shops, prepares food. The only thing he doesn't do is serve. It's BYOB with a $10 corkage charge, so the meal is actually quite inexpensive for such fabulous food. Just remember that it's three course but there is no choice on the appetizer and dessert, and there were two choices for the entree... both fantastic. He knows how to cater to vegetarians, gluten-free, etc. In short, if you can get a reservation, do it. It was a cold night, and there is an outside courtyard with a fire where you can sit around and relax.
