“Excellent in all Ways”
Reviewed 4 April 2012

My wife and I had never been to Scottsdale, so I searched out hotels on Trip Advisor before making our choice of where to stay. I We wanted a full service resort, that had some nice pools to relax around. There were some mixed reviews on the Fairmont Scottsdale, but having stayed at numerous other Fairmonts I decided to make the reservation. When reading the reviews I usually consider the number of excellent vs terrible and read a section of each, realizing that some people will never be satisfied with anything. Having said that however, I have to admit that I was a bit nervous about our stay. I shouldn't have been.

We were greeted by the valet and bell staff and when I said that I wanted to self park they still took great care of us, unlike other hotels that we have visited. Check in staff were friendly, prompt and our reservation was 100% accurate. As soon as I was finished a the check in desk a bellman was right behind me to greet me, find out where our room was, gave me directions to the self park and get our luggage to our room. By the time that we got to our room, the luggage was there and the bellman pointed out the features of the room and property and went to get us ice before he left.

We had a corner room in building B that overlooked one of the fountains and the golf course. Room was large, spacious, clean and well maintained. The first night our room seemed to be too warm and I suspected that the air conditioner was not functioning properly. I made a call to the royal service desk and advised them of the problem and that we were just leaving for breakfast. By the time that we got back to the room the problem was fixed, maintenance had left a card that showed that they were there only 20 minutes after calling. This was followed up by a voice message from the desk to ensure that the problem had been taken care of .

We really enjoyed our days around the pool - we especially enjoyed the east pool. The pool attendants were very helpful and friendly, but unobtrusive. When someone left the pool area, an attendant would appear from somewhere, change the covering on the lounge, and disappear quickly with the used covering and towels. Very relaxing and very quiet. There was an abundance of sun and shade spots at the east pool and this suited us perfectly.

The grounds were absolutely spectacular and we just loved our morning and evening walks around the lagoons and greens. Ducks, herons, rabbits, fish, benches, chairs, fire pits. It was more than we ever expected.

Service was first class, the room was extremely comfortable and well maintained, the grounds were spectacular and the pool areas were just what we wanted.

Unfortunately we booked kind of late and were only able to get 5 nights at the Fairmont and we had to move to another hotel for the last 3 nights of our stay in Scottsdale. It did give us a chance to compare and although the other hotel was rated 5 stars as well, it wasn't. Fairmont Scottsdale - we will be back.

Room Tip: Building B or C is closer to the self park, but still central enough to pools and restaurants.

My husband and I stayed here in September 2011 as part of a business meeting. The hotel handled our large group very well. We had several memorable dinners including one at their on site version of the OK Corral! The room we had was spacious and well appointed and I believe was called a casita. There was a patio outside our room, which was a nice touch. The grounds are truly amazing and we enjoyed walking around to see the foliage. I took an excellent golf lesson with a group and learned a lot. The pros were wonderful. The only small glitch was the staff lit the fireplace in our room, which we did not notice until it became very hot in our room and we were not able to turn off the gas jet. It was about 90 that night so a fire was not really on our agenda.

Room Tip: Try a casita

Too bad I don't golf. However, the property was amazingly beautiful and just walking around was a visual treat. I loved the benches and tables tucked away for a private conversation.

The beds were not as comfortable as I expected, but weren't bad. The room had an odd layout that was like a maze. Service was mostly excellent. I did have an issue with the front desk which placed me on hold for 15 minutes (no excuse for that long of a wait). There was one clerk at the front desk with 'tude, but other than that the staff was very, very friendly.

From the moment we arrived, the staff treated us like royalty. The room was roomy and the bed was like a cloud. Unfortunately, the day after we arrived the temperature dropped into the 50"s so we couldn't enjoy the beautiful pool area, but we jumped on the trolley that stops at the front of the hotel, and it took us down to Oldtown, and when we were ready to return to the hotel, we cought another trolley that took us back to the Fairmont. (no charge) One evening we wanted to eat over at the golf course steak house (really great food) and a shuttle dropped us off there and took us back to the hotel when we were ready. The grounds at the hotel are so pretty at night, with lots of firepits to enjoy. Just to sit by, to chat ,or to enjoy drinks.

Lisa,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us! The complimentary Hospitality Trolley is one of the many amenities available to guests this time of year, and we are thrilled you took advantage of it. While we can't control the weather, we do keep our pools heated should you be tempted to go for a swim while staying at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess. The Grill at the TPC Scottsdale has spectacular views and the menu is sure to please even the pickiest of eaters due to the selection of menu items. We hope you will come back and join us again to enjoy the beautiful Arizona sunshine.

Warm Regards,

Elise Pagnini, Online Marketing Manager

We upgraded to a gold room - it was very nice. We spent time in the Spa (entry was free with gold) which was huge and very nice. Staff were really helpful and polite. I wish we could have stayed longer. We will go back when we are next in the area. Gold lounge was also very nice and staff very friendly. The only annoying thing was that we tried to get into one of the restaurants and they could only offer us a table very late (we asked around 5pm and they had nothing until 9pm) so we had room service which we had to send back as it was cold but it soon was redelivered and was very nice. All in all very nice.

Room Tip: Always ask about an upgrade to Gold to see how much it is. We have stayed in lots of Fairmont's...

The rooms were fantastic, but the service was not up to the 5 star standard. Breakfast room service late every day, with problems with the order. They ran out of Perrier water???? and took 45 minutes to tell us they'd run out of room service popcorn. The LV Bistro is a disaster (don't eat there). We finally had to complain all the way to the Director F & B to get the service we expected, and from that point on, everything was perfect. It was too bad we had to make a fuss first, as we don't like to complain. Best restaurants are La Hacienda and Bourbon Steak - fabulous food and outstanding service.

Everything you would expect at a resort at this price point-beautiful grounds and pools, large comfortable rooms and bathrooms with lots of space for your things, and all the amenities, and outstanding service from all staff. Many things for children to see and do. Their loyalty club is free to join and gives you free wi-fi in the room. Restaurant food excellent with many choices. The one negative is noise from the halls. We used the fan setting on the in-room thermostat to cancel that out. Phoenix sprawls. While there is a free shuttle that takes you around Scottsdale, a rental car is very handy.

Room Tip: We asked for a quiet room and were located looking out on a secondary pool, so had a nice view from...
