“This is a Time Share not a resort! The worst experience ever!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 May 2012

We were completely mislead and lied to by this place, both online and in person. We booked an expensive room at what we thought was a luxury resort. What a dump! Very run down and it has turned into a time share. We were not told it was a timeshare until hours after we had checked in. This means no maid service in the rooms! In 30 years of traveling I have never stayed anywhere that did not provide maid service! The spa locker room had cracked tiles falling off the walls, the sauna did not work and there was peeling paint everywhere! The staff was the one highlight of our stay there (they should leave for somewhere better!), except for the front desk staff who did not respond well to our complaints/concerns. The place was full of free weekend timeshare seekers and that also made the weekend a classless, tacky experience. DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU WANT A PEACEFUL STAY IN SEDONA! It must have been nice once but not now! I would give it zero stars if I could!

We are genuinely sorry to learn of your dissatisfaction with regards to your recent stay at Los Abrigados Resort & Spa. It does concern us as we have such positive reviews from the majority of our guests. Important information, relating to a guest’s stay should be made available on the booking confirmation or on the provider’s website through which the reservation is confirmed. Housekeeping is generally provided after the third night (fourth day), unless a guest requests an additional service. This can be provided at an additional fee.
We are currently working on remodelling the spa and this will also take care of any decor which overtime needs to be replaced. To our knowledge, the sauna has been in operation and is working fine at the moment. It is possible the sauna may have been down for some preventative maintenance work during your visit.
Your feedback is extremely valuable to us and we would like to thank you for taking your time to submit this review.

The location of Los Abrigados is great! It is right next door to Tlaquepaque. The atmosphere is marvelous. The rooms are very dated, but still comfortable. It is close enough to the activities of Sedona, but far enough away to have the peace for a good vacation. Be sure to communicate with the resort regarding specific reservations. We were initially assigned a third floor room with a king-size bed for a family of six with a wheelchair. The staff was great in making the change to a first floor room with a ramp accessability. Although the staff was very helpful in all respects, the rooms made staying with disabled kids very difficult. The wheelchair one was not able to go swimming as there are steps at every entrance to the pool.

Room Tip: Be sure to call ahead to confirm floor and type of room. There are no elevators for the upper rooms...

Since Diamond Resorts acquired Los Abrigados two years ago, some definite improvements have been made. The lobby, welcome area and the staff on site are first rate. The concierge staff was helpful, informative and made our first stay in Sedona very enjoyable. There was a welcome breakfast with representatives from various local businesses and most of them provided a little western entertainment along with their sales pitch and giveaways. Everyone on the staff was friendly, pleasant, and helpful and the sports restaurant on site, Sticks and Stakes, had good food, nightly specials and did their best to accommodate fans who wished to see a game.

The flower filled, tree lined gardens provides a peaceful spot to walk, sit, or read by Oak Creek which borders the property. There are also tennis courts, a mini golf course, bocce court, a maze and lovely sculptures on the grounds. You can walk to 5 restaurants and the upscale Tlaquepaque, (everything under the sun) shopping area in a couple minutes and there are many other eateries, shops, grocery stores, churches, and area attractions within a few miles.

The one bedroom suites are spacious enough with a nice balcony--most with a view of the spectacular Sedona rock formations, but the furnishings are old and shabby, especially in the living area. The bedroom bedding has been recently updated with high quality linens which include the towels. The kitchen is minuscule with no cabinet space for your supplies and the dishwasher and refrigerator are apt, not full sized. The units still require major updating. There are steps to all units, no elevators, and limited parking near the units. There is more parking across from the registration lobby. There is only one self-service laundry for the entire complex and it is not centrally located, although it contained a good number of washer and dryers.

Hopefully, Diamond Resorts will continue their renovation efforts as this property has plenty of positives.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with an eastern view to be able to see the red rocks.

Centrally located, beautiful grounds, nice one bdrm, new gym with all you might need, friendly staff; property, now, with Diamond International - updating property including rooms; we had large one bedroom with balcony, concierge friendly & helpful; we did not attend timeshare sales pitch nor eat at restaurant on property; only complaint is no flat screen in room or WiFi; poolside bartender makes a mean mi tie; after upgrades, resort could be 5 stars.

Room Tip: Buildings G, H, I are ideally located

There are people who prefer air conditioning and people who prefer open windows; we are the latter. One of the architectural problems of Los Abrigados is that some units have just one window; we also had a patio/sliding door, but the AC power plant near our building section was so noisy that it was difficult to actually sit on the patio. And we would have liked to have done that more as there was a decent view of the Red Rock country. The kitchen was quite small, and again, it's probably about our values as we like to cook rather than eat out. (Although we did dine at Elote Cafe, a walkable distance, and it is remarkable.)
There is no Wi-Fi in the room, and there were other rather old-fashioned attributes of the resort such as not having a good system to notify guests of activities. The staff failed to give us a printed calendar at check-in, and it was only after a few days when we asked that we got one. (There was more emphasis on selling units than on service in our opinion.)
There is a lovely pool and a separate one for children. BBQ units scattered about the property. There is also an excellent walking tour of historical markers; we also enjoyed walking to the park by Oak Creek. Finally, rave reviews on the Fitness Center. We stayed one week at Los Abrigados and one week at Sedona Pines, and overall, we preferred the latter.

Room Tip: Ask for a view as very few actually have views, but keep in mind loud noise areas (e.g., kids' p...

We stayed Sunday-Friday and had a wonderful time at Los Ab. EVERYONE we encountered was so pleasant and couldn't do enough for us. If something was not "perfect" the employees are empowered to make a guest-friendly correction and take care of it. We stayed in a two bdrm Deluxe unit which had an assigned parking spot, very nice gas fireplace (only the first couple of nights were cool enough to turn it on) and everything we needed to be comfortable, including robes.

We used our Diamond Resorts points for our stay, but this property can be booked through a variety of travel sites. Keep in mind, this property was taken over by Diamond Resorts (DR)and is still going through a bit of transition to be updated to the DR standards, but that did not detract from our stay.

The grounds are impeccable and very peaceful, don't miss the opportunity to walk along the creekside. The restaurant located on property had good food at reasonable prices with good service. You may not find a "room service" menu in your room, but they will deliver a meal in a to go container to you, they are VERY accommodating.

The Spa had nice services with amenities in the locker rooms-steam room, sauna and whirlpool; if you like to ride the stationary bike, there are 3 on the open air patio to enjoy some views, as well as schedule classes in the yoga room-yoga, pilates, etc) and a well-equipped workout room.

The pool and hot tub were great. There are a few "equipment rooms" located around the complex, but overall it was a great place.

Room Tip: We enjoyed a room on the 2nd floor to take advantage of the views.

My family and I stayed at Los Abrigados (L.A.) from 4/7 - 4/13. I am a big Trip Advisor (T.A.) fan (I finance limited service motels and will always check Trip Advisor for any property I am looking to finance - just great info all around). Prior to the trip I consulted T.A. on this property and was not sure about the property or Sedona. Am very glad I made the trip, L.A. was great as was Sedona. As for L.A., I have always been an active athlete training for 1 or more sports over 5 - 7 days per week, staying here was similar to staying in a very nice apartment in the midst of a full service fitness center. L.A. has a very nice weight workout facility with both free and machine weights, plenty of cardio equipment, and an adjacent dance/yoga/pilates studio. Two pools - adult and kids - both good size, with the adult pool approx 25 meters in length, long enough for laps. This resort has a minature golf course, which is nicely built/laid out, we used it serveral times and it was obviously poplular with other may other guests. My family used the spa, me for a message and my wife and daughter for a manicure and pedicure and the staff and facilities there were first rate. The concierge recomended a couple of hikes, including nearby Cathedral Rock, which my son and I hiked nearly everday we were there, just spectacular views and a great/quick workout. Internet access was OK in our unit, but much better via Wifi in the business center. Our unit was a two bedroom and it was roomy and efficient, the kitchen was large and the unit was suitable for entertaining, the apartment was not new and did show some wear, but overall it worked very well for us.

Room Tip: 2 bedrooms evidently offer a larger kitchen, which was what we got.
