This place looks like it's been around more than 18 years. It was perfectly acceptable as a place to stay in Dominical area. AC took time to cool down the room. Very nice grounds and a nice pool. All the chairs around the pool were in use so I couldn't hang out there when I wanted to. A decent breakfast included with room - nice area for breakfast. Prices are a bit high for what you get compared to other places we stayed in well travelled tourist areas. We were glad we were only staying for one night. We really liked Dominical, although we didn't spend much time in the area. Neat little funky town.

Room Tip: I think we had a superior room.

the hotel is sited on a large river, consists of about 50 or 60 cottages, all renonovated recently. It has, for the southern pacific, a very large and well maintained pool w/ adjacent restaurant and bar. The hotel is walking distance to the town of dominical and the beach. ...to the south 10 minutes. I you walk to the north , along the road next to the river it is jungle , but safe....an actual costa rican experience. The river is high and rushing in the rainy season and a bed of stone like creek in january /february.
The people that work in this hotel are the best and most helpful. They have a full time peron to help w/ any excursions or sidetrips you wish to take. And can rent a car as well. The people are what makes this a special resort.

We arrived a day early. Our hotel was booked and they recommended Rio Mar. Even though, it is not on the beach, it is close by to the beach and "downtown" Dominical via a dirt road. It is in the jungle, but there are broad lawns separating the buildings. The pool is big. The rooms are not big, but they all come with an outdoor seating area with a small refrigerator and wet bar. The staff was friendly and helpful. Even though there are 50+ rooms, it never feels crowded.

What can I say, Detroit to Dominical. Two weeks and never a dull moment, from breakfast with Carol then surf with Bob then food at the restaurant from a confident staff. I should of never got back on the plane home. Epic. Costa Rica is a very nice place to spend some time where you don't worry about time. Very friendly and the water is warm and waves -anything you want.

Room Tip: Rooms are fine, clean and the fans work well. Enjoy your privacy.

We spent 4 days at Villas Rio Mar and we had a great experience. The staff was super. The grounds are just beautiful. We had a bungalow in the corner of the property and we faced out into the wild. We had a small brook beneath our window and awoke to the sound of water. We looked out and it was like we had our own personal paradise. When it came time to check out, my wife did not want to leave. She told me I could go home without her...The room was very comfortable with A/C and WIFI. There is a huge swimming pool which is perfect for cooling off after a long day. The buffet breakfast which is included was very good. We had a dinner in the restaurant which was quite delicious. The menu prices are a tad on the high side. All in all, an extremely positve experience. I would be very happy to stay there again in the future.

Absolutly wonderful, helpful and respectful staff, magnificent gardens, great food and very confortable rooms - ours was adapted for the disabled and greatly appreciated by my husband who is paraplegic - what more do you want?? We stayed there a few times in the last few years and this time, we were there over the Holidays with 4 family members, including 2 children. They enjoyed every minute of it! Every day, we could hear the Howler Monkeys, see Toucans up close, smell different flower essence blooming in the gardens, etc. Access to Dominical beach nearby was easy and there was never a dull moment with all the activities/adventures available in this beautiful region. Actually, being close to the Corcovado Park which National Geographic has called "the most biodiverse place on earth", this area (the Barú region) is extremely luxuriant. I recommend walks along the river early in the morning and - for an amazing concert of frogs and insects - walks in the evening. Special thanks to Estella and her wonderful team who worked real hard to make our stay confortable, to Xinea who organized a night activity for us and who patiently resolved a tricky situation that followed, to the restaurant team who was so professional and friendly, and to the maintenance and cleaning teams who were always helpful. We will be back! Suzy E.

Room Tip: The area being hot and humid, if you tend to suffer from heat, choose a room with A/C.
