We stayed at La Paloma Lodge on the tail end of our trip to Costa Rica. Definitely saved the best for last. The lodge was a piece of paradise. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcomed us upon arrival with a fresh lunch and incredible view of Drake Bay. The rooms were really well kept and made you feel like you were one with the jungle. The day trips were really well done and timed so that you could enjoy some off time later in the day. Great place and a great way to end a trip.

We had a super visit to La Paloma in Feb '11. Stayed in Rancho #6 - a bit of a hike from the main building where dining happens, but wonderfully private. Room was pleasant and comfortable, food was very good (super fresh - not fancy-schmancy, just solidly good flavor with fish, chicken variations, salads, etc.). Staff and guides helpful and knowledgable and aiming to please. Pleasant cocktail hour with good bartender and happy tropical-themed drinks. Weather for our stay was awesome - it might be a bit uncomfy there during the raining/damp/hot-humid season, as it's not air conditioned. Only regret - wished we'd stayed another day or two just to sit by the pool - kept ourselves busy with the various nature trip (Cano Island, Corcorvado Park, mangrove tour). Guides were very good - sharps eyes and sharp minds - lots of creatures so see. Take the night hike, too! Nicole and Vanessa and the entire team are great. We particularly appreciated their calm handling of the wedding ring I left in the room safe - they made sure it got on the next small plane flight out and signed into the Sansa desk at San Jose's airport for me to pick up the very next AM. With so many places in the world to go to on our list, we don't often feel like we want to repeat a place, but this one's definitely on the list.

La Paloma is like a dream. it was our first stop in Costa Rica after a very long journey from the other side of the world. We booked three days here, and worried over the expense of such a such a short trip. It was worth ever penny. its incredible. I have never seen such an incredible array of animals and other creatures. The staff are so kind and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. when I dropped my camera in the river they tried to resuscitate it, alas to no avail.

The breakfast is delicious, always a choice and the other meals are entertaining, you sit with everyone at dinner, something I was dreading but it was good fun. The lodges you stay in great and slightly open to the elements, so you can here the rainforest noises at night.

The tours to the national park and island are fantastic, our guide Brainer was brilliant at imitating animal and bird noises, he could almost coax creatures down to us see us. I have been lucky enough to dive and snorkel in some incredible places, the snorkelling here isn't so good for seeing coral reef but the shear amount of fish is breathtaking.. and we saw turtles and reef sharks too. Finally the Bug Lady. A MUST! she and her partner are so knowledgeable, and we saw some incredible things on the night tour.
We were so sad to leave La Paloma, but there was to much to take in, three days seemed like a week. I'd go back in a heart beat.

If you want to see Costa Rican wildlife this is the place to be, unspoilt, private, and with first class guides. The lodge is beautifully run, delicious food, comfortable beds, and really great tours. This was the highlight of our Costa Rican holiday. There is no airconditioning which we never use anyway, and it probably wouldn't suit people who want hot and cold running staff , nightlife, and 'amenities' - it is just a wonderful out of the way relaxing friendly place that feels more like a house than a hotel.

La Paloma is gorgeous. The staff are very helpful and welcoming. They remember your name and use it during your stay which is a nice touch that makes you feel valued.

The food is excellent and they provide a good variety. In the mornings you can request a wake up knock and they will bring you fresh coffee to your door which is a great way to start the day. We were upgraded for 2 nights during our stay and the view from our rancho was amazing, we were able to shower and look out at the ocean!

The opportunities to experience nature from La Paloma are excellent -there would be no point in coming to this lodge if you aren't into nature as that is what it is all about!

It is quite an expensive place to stay but for a treat, it is worth it. I would love to visit again.
