Can't recommend this lodge highly enough.
Rooms were wonderful, with great balconies, complete with hammock, and reading chairs.
The lodge's common area for dining and lounging was also very nice, with lovely views all around. We saw lots of birds and monkeys just while sitting on the veranda, and on our last day one of the other guests reported an ocelot sighting!
The meals were fantastic, with at least two choices at every meal, and were served family-style to promote interaction between the guests, which was pleasant.
Dinner was preceded by different snacks every night - guacamole, ceviche, plantain chips....
The lodge's sandy beach was lovely and accessible via a series of stone steps and paths.
The pool was small and unheated, but nicely situated.
Best of all were the lodge's very friendly and caring staff. All were good, but Nicole and Jamaica stood out.
We also enjoyed hiking and snorkelling tours with Walter and Randall, respectively, both of whom are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic guides.
The lodge also provides complimentary kayaks, which we used, and boogie boards, which we did not.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you so much for leaving your thoughts here on TripAdvisor. We were so delighted to hear that you enjoyed the best of La Paloma. The views truly are amazing, whether you are looking out at the pacific or into the jungle canopy there are endless vistas that take your breath away.

Not to forget the fauna that lives around the hotel. Though Ocelots are not common to see, we have had several sightings by our night guards who say that the beautiful cats like to sit by the pool at night. How cool is that! More common animals to see are monkeys, Toucans, Scarlet Macaws, Coati's and sometimes snakes.

How great that you enjoyed our family style dinners, it brings everyone together to share the amazing things they've experienced and tips of other places to visit. It has been a popular addition to the hotel since we opened. We do accommodate for those who wish to have a private dinner. Thank you for mentioning our staff by name, we work very hard to make sure all of our guests get a once in a lifetime experience and when it shines through in a review like yours it warms our hearts.

We hope to welcome you again in the future, thanks again!
Best regards,
Jamaica

We recently spent 4 nights at La Paloma Lodge at the end of a 2 week trip to Costa Rica with our 3 boys, ages 8, 10 and 10. It was an incredible all around experience. It felt like everything we did was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and we came home much wiser, well fed, and very relaxed.

We stayed in one of their beautiful bungalows. They are simple but spectacular. We loved lying in the hammock or sitting on the porch admiring the endless view of the Pacific, the monkeys and toucans in the nearby trees, and the quiet.

Every day we had a new adventure. We loved our tour of Corcovado Park with Randall, an extremely knowledgeable and engaging guide. We all learned so much about the flora and fauna of the park, and loved his stories and experiences.

We also loved our day of snorkelling with Jose, one of the lodge's wonderful staff. He was amazing with the kids and taught them about how to dive down under water while snorkelling and taught them a lot about the fish and moray eel we saw.

We did a night tour with Tracie the Bug Lady. Again, was thrilled with the experience, the amazing frogs, arachnids, and other insects we saw.

We really enjoyed the canopy tour in Drake Bay (favourite one in Costa Rica), kayaking in the river (with a few crocodiles), boogie boarding at Cocolito Beach, and just enjoying the lodge's beautiful surroundings and vibe.

The food at the lodge was fantastic. Two choices for each meal, apples before dinner, soup, salad, and very delicious gourmet dinners. Meals were served family style at shared tables and we really enjoyed meeting the other like-minded guests and hearing about their travel. adventures.

The staff was great, all the details were taken care of. I would go back in a heart beat.

Dear Beth,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments here on TripAdvisor. This helps future customers when choosing the best vacation destination.

La Paloma takes pride in catering to all different travelers no matter how young or old. You'll want to be a bit agile and used to walking and moving around to fully enjoy the area. The beach below the hotel is accessible by a stairway approx. 10 min down the hill. We do have a car for those needing assistance back up. Boogie boarding is a family favorite, or just lounging in our sun chairs listening to the sounds of the ocean.

Ask us when booking what the best excursion options are for you and your family members. There is so much to see and our knowledgeable guides will show you the best the Osa peninsula has to offer.

Thanks again, Pura Vida

We recently returned from a 5 night stay at La Paloma. Our group included 6 family members, ranging in age from 22 to 70; everyone thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The main lodge and ranchos are beautiful. Two of us stayed in Rancho # 6, which is a bit of a hike from the main lodge. Individuals with significant mobility problems should take this into consideration. All of the ranchos provide a great deal of privacy and magnificent views of the Pacific.

The food was excellent, emphasizing fresh locally grown fruit and locally caught seafood. The onsite lodge managers (Nicole and Jamaica) are really competent - everything ran like clockwork. All of the lodge staff members are competent and invariably friendly.

During our 4 days at La Paloma, we enjoyed the Mangrove Tour, the trip to Corcovado National Park, and snorkeling near Cano Island. Each of these excursions was definitely worth it. The naturalists/guides employed by La Paloma are excellent (our guides were Randall and Sandra)..due to their expertise and enthusiasm, we learned a great deal, and had the opportunity to see many of the creatures that inhabit the Osa Peninsula, including 4 species of monkeys, crocodiles, sloths, coati mundis, caimans, boa constrictors, and about a gazillion birds. In particular, the Toucans and Scarlet Macaws were unforgettable.

We also spent one day offshore fishing on the Reel Escape. If you enjoy saltwater fishing, or would like to try it, I would definitely recommend the Reel Escape. The boat is scrupulously clean, the captain and crew are competent and hard working, and they do a great job in regard to finding fish.

In summary, we all had a great time, and highly recommend La Paloma Lodge.

Dear Dan and Family!

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. We had a wonderful time hosting you and your family and are so glad to hear your stay with us was memorable and fun. Randall and Sandra have been working in the area for over 15 years and we are so fortunate to have them offer our guests knowledge and adventure while on La Paloma´s day trips.

Willy and his crew on the Reel Escape are the most competent crew in the area. With over a decade of experience you can´t help but have good times and bring in some big fish. They know their fishing! Want to reel in the big ones and have it for dinner later? you won´t be disappointed.

Thank you for all the nice feedback, we take pride in our product and are delighted to know that you all enjoyed your vacation.

Most welcome back to La Paloma Lodge.

Best regards,

Our family travels frequently and we have voted this as our favorite destination thus far. La Paloma Lodge is set in the remote area of Drake Bay which makes this wonderful as it does not have that touristy feel. You arrive by boat and are greeted at the dock by the friendliest staff. Nichole and staff there make you feel so comfortable, they are kind and helpful. The food is fabulous! Fresh fruit, juices, delicious coffee, and several meal choices at each meal. Our room was an amazing two bedroom/ two bathroom/ two floor house set on the mountain, with a porch, hammock and the most amazing view of the ocean. The beauty of La Paloma is that they schedule every activity for you with top notch guides. Our family scuba dived, toured the mangroves, hiked the national park, did the evening "Bug Lady tour", zip lined and went on a sunset beach horseback ride. I would not have eliminated a thing. Loved it all and met wonderful people. The only thing I will say, this is not a trip for someone who does not like the outdoors and is not somewhat physically fit. We climbed a lot of stairs. We left feeling like we walked out of the Planet Earth segment of Costa Rica, we saw and came up close and personal with almost all the animals this beautiful place has to offer. We saw 4 types of monkeys, sloths, toucans, boa constrictors, crocodiles, and much more. A little slice of heaven!

Dear Felicia,

You being a frequent traveler, we feel honored to read this review of your stay at La Paloma Lodge. We are so delighted to read that you enjoyed everything that makes La Paloma great. We want our guests to be able to come and fully unwind and enjoy the beauty that surrounds us and the amazing local guides and staff who want nothing more then to share their paradise with you.

You were really lucky to experience so many of our top tours, that is the beauty of staying a little longer. You can´t miss Corcovado National Park; the "mother" of all parks and the heart of the Osa peninsula. But there is so much more to see around the hotel, like the amazingly gorgeous sunset horse back ride along the coast. Beautiful beaches, one after another, a definite must do if you have the extra time.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience here on Trip Advisor. We hope to welcome your family back soon!

Perfect family adventure vacation - setting in more remote part of Costa Rica is amazing - where rainforest meets the sea. Paloma Beach House is a fabulous private property for family wanting 3 BRs and amazing views. House is beautiful, with views at every point. staff is incredibly helpful. We did everything our family enjoys: scuba, rainforest exploration; fabulous horsebackriding; kayaking, exploring, beach relaxing.
wonderful winter holiday experience. Nichole and her team are experts at meeting the guests every needs. Beach BBQ lunches were terrific, and family style dinners at the lodge were perfect mix of fine dining and meeting new people in a relaxed setting.
