Owner description: This desert refuge has sheltered people for over a thousand years. It has been home, shrine, hideout, challenging workplace, exciting playground, tranquil retreat. On the National Historic Register, the 2,400-acre Park showcases crystal-filled Colossal Cave and historic La Posta Quemada Ranch. Cave tours, museum, Western trail rides, picnicking. Open daily

$18 admission for 1 hr. tour. 363 steps. Hiking trails adjacent to area, Eastern Saguaro NP a few mi. away. Cave itself had quite a bit of damage inside: broken stalactites and columns, lots of evidence of hands on structures, discoloration, etc. People have no respect. Dry vs. wet cave, 46% humidity and 72 degrees. Has a gift shop, small cafe, scenic views, camping and more advanced spelunking. Enjoyed my short visit there.

Hi Julie, Thank you for the informative review! We too are sad that visitors of long ago didn't realize the importance of cave conservation, yet so glad the old view has changed. Hope to see you again in the future!

Pricy compare to Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. Cave is not well preserved. Stalagmites and stalactites are broken off. Tour guide makes the tour longer by adding irrelevant information. Hard to hear guide.

The caves were quite fascinating with many stalactites and other formations. They went quite deep, and you could see even further down. There were dim lights along the paths, so no flashlights are needed. We did the basic tour. There are quite a few stairs, but most have handrails and are very safe and easy to do.
The big disappointment was that because the group was so large ( about 25 people), only the few around the guide could hear what he was saying. By the time the rest reached the spot he was talking about, he was long gone to the next area. The group sizes should only be 8 - 10 people.

The cave itself was wonderful, however there should not be more than 10 people allowed on a tour unless a speaker system is provided.. The walk is very narrow and the guide cannot be heard by people in the back of a 20 person group. Even when the guide is heard, by the time the people in the back reach the area of interest, they don't know what they are looking for.

Super fun, nice and cool, and very informative! Our family of four thoroughly enjoyed the tour and our guide. The girl at the top made us a yummy lunch for a very reasonable price afterwards. Definitely go if you're a geology nut or just think caves are cool. Totally worth the price.
