Well first of all before I left last weekend I made a booking to come again at Christmas, so I probably don't need to say much more...we loved our stay at The Garryvoe Hotel, from start to finish it was such an enjoyable experience, the staff are genuinely the nicest I've met in a hotel in a long time, special shout out to the lady who supervises the restaurant for breakfast, we ate her out of house and home with her new pancake machine, but she really made us feel so welcome and looked after. The food is second to none, we ate in both the Bistro and the Samphire Restaurant, and really enjoyed both, the hotel are very generous when it comes to food and there is no scrimping.

The decor is magic, we sat each evening in the bar which is newly renovated, it is gorgeous, it's done in almost a library style with panelled walls, chandeliers, fireplaces, cosy contemporary bliss. Also there was a jazz duo on the Sat night which was a nice touch.

The leisure centre again is done to a really high standard, and the staff there friendly and very approachable, there's also plenty of armbands and float aids for the kids to borrow, and an outdoor hot tub for the adults.

The Hotel overlooks Garryvoe beach which is beautiful, but also worth a visit is neighbouring Ballycotton for some rugged unspoilt landscape, Ballymaloe House for a nosy around the grounds, in the shop and a scone in the cafe, and Stephen Pearse Pottery and Kilkenny Design in nearby Shanagarry.

A hugely enjoyable stay, went with family and we have all booked again for our next stay and are looking forward to it immensely.

Total after thought...but there is fairy doors all over the hotel!!!!!! How amazing is that!!!!

Room Tip: We stayed in 324 which is on the right side for the leisure centre, you can get the lift straight do...

I had to post after reading your recent review from Aug 5th also.
We joined you in the lighthouse bar for some lunch, as the main body of the hotel was being used to host a wedding. We had the burger and the steak sandwich. My burger was cooked perfectly, the onion rings were some of the best we have ever had and my partners steak sandwich looked lovely. He really enjoyed it and it came overflowing with onions in a lovely sauce.
We were served by two lovely young servers, a great friendly waitress Sarah (I think) even ran off and grabbed us a wedding brochure.
Lovely staff nice bar - the newly renovated bar looks amazing and we will have to go back and try it out!

Had an evening meal in lighthouse bar. Very poor service. The elder waiter was gruff and grunted at us. Younger waiters far more approachable.
I had a steak sandwich. Which was presented in a poor half stale bap and with a slither of steak and a few cold bits of onion and sauce with a plate of chips.
Very poor value at €17.99
Wife had 10oz steak with no veg and Luke warm mash in a bowl. Was €22.
Menu was poor and specials were very fish orientated.
Will mot be going back.

Dear PacoMurray

I am so disappointed to hear of your recent experience in the Lighthouse bar and bistro.

We do always try to offer good food whilst what we believe is good value for money.
In relation to the menu; I believe it does offer a variety of options including fish which we are renowned for. You do not mention if you highlighted any of your issues on the day with the staff members?
I would be grateful if you would consider giving us another chance when you are in the area again so we can put your faith back in our food offering. Please do not hesitate to call me on (021) 4646718 next time you are in East Cork.

Kind regards

Just home from a three night break at the Garryvoe Hotel. We had a wonderful time, very nice hotel, we had a nice, clean and comfortable room. The staff were some of the friendliest people I've met in a while, so helpful and polite. The leisure centre was lovely, very clean and loved the outdoor hot tub. The views from the hotel were fab and it's only a short walk to the beach. The food was lovely, lots of variety for breakfast and dinner. We were a mother and daughter on a short break but there were lots of families in the hotel, it seems a good place for families.

PS. If you're very quiet and look very closely you might just see a fairy or elf in the corridors! ;)

Dear HeritageRocks

Thank you for the really wonderful review.

I am so happy to hear that you both enjoyed your stay with us. The fairies are permanent residents here in the Garryvoe.... their little front doors go down a treat with both big and little people! Do pop back and see us again in the future.

We had 4 generations - Great Granny, Granny and Grandad, Mam and Dad and 2 toddlers - everybody had a great time. The rooms were clean, spacious and well presented. The breakfast was great. Food in the Samphire restaurant was excellent. The children enjoyed their dinners and the fun play activities every evening. The staff were great. And the leisure centre was well able to cater for the children and the adults. As we were leaving Mam and Dad booked their next family getaway. Heartily and fully recommended.

We stayed two nights on a mid week package. Our room was large, clean and comfortable with a good sized bathroom. The small balcony through sliding doors had a great view of the bay even though it was located at the side of the hotel. It was a lovely quiet room. The breakfast was great, good quality locally sourced food with plenty of choice. Our package included dinner one night, this was lovely. There was a mix up with our restaurant booking but it was sorted out with no fuss. The hotel staff were friendly. We loved the location and the hotel and would stay again.

This hotel has a lot going for it. The staff are very good, the leisure centre is small but fab. The restaurant and bar area are beautifully designed. It's ideally located for families, it's beside a lovely beach and not too far from Midleton, a nice sized town. Ciara was the receptionist that greeted us on our arrival, she was really friendly and helpful, she's great at her job. The only negative was our room, the bathroom needs a bit of updating, but apart from that this hotel is doing a fab job. I would highly recommend it to families or couples.
