Had lovely Sunday lunch in Picaderos today, paella was really delicious, but would love if it was served in the paella pan and not spooned onto plates at our table! Seemed very strange and unnecessary. Actually the paella on the childrens menu was served in the pan! Lovely childrens meals too and staff very good. Unfortunately the pear and almond tart for dessert was disappointing , very dry and no almond flavour at all and the pie crust was not nice. Tart was meant to be served warm but was barely heated.
Will go back to try the tapas next time!

Dear happyholidays87,

Firstly, many thanks for you custom and secondly for your valued feedback.
As a family run business employing over 50 people locally we pride ourselves in offering a quality value for money experience with the best levels of service we can provide.

Continued feedback, both positive and constructive is a very important element in achieving this as it gives us a real time gauge of our team performance.

To offer a truly authentic Spanish experience we always dish up the various types of Paella on a serving board at the tables. We also do this for health & safety reasons as the paella pan itself is piping hot as it comes direct from the oven/gas hob and would not be safe to serve on the table; in fact it would burn the table itself.

Again, for safety reasons the children's mini paella is dished into a smaller cooler pan in the kitchen such that the kids don't burn themselves with a hot pan or plate.

I am glad you did however enjoy the paella flavours itself.

As regards our pear & almond cake (Tarta de Santiago), I must apologise for this short coming. I will review the recipe with our Pastry Chef and also ensure that it is served at the correct temperature at all times; thank you for your honest & constructive feedback here.

Look forward to your next visit with us.

Many Thanks
Martin McMahon

Just had a wonderful meal this evening here. Lovely cosy atmosphere and very prompt, attentive staff. Great variety of food, which arrived quickly and were tasty (mussels, soup and the wings). Main course was also delicious, followed by amazing desserts. Good wine selection, and overall brilliant atmosphere. Highly recommended.

I didn't have a booking but they were able to accomodate me. The service was excellent but the food was amazing.

The menu offers mexican,Spanish cuisine. They have a tapas menu if you wish and a good wine list.

The food was very tasty indeed. I would definitely recommend this for any event.

Usually there's a great atmosphere here but we were very disappointed. It was an early sitting for dinner but we felt that was no excuse for tables being loudly moved and staff shouting across the restaurant like it was empty. We were asked did we want to order three times within two minutes so we ended up ordering in a panic. We only noticed when we got the bill that one of the tapas we had ordered never arrived and we had gotten something else instead which was disappointing. (Not a massive problem but it didn't make us feel like much attention had been paid to us)At one point a staff member was noisily moving tables next to us and spraying cleaner on the table practically beside our food without even looking at us or apologising and it really took away from the atmosphere of the meal. We understand staff have to clean and move tables but this was done without any concern for customers. Staff came over several times to check the empty tables next to us were in order but seemed unconcerned about the actual customers sitting in the restaurant. The food was fine and there were a few gems but we felt it was so over priced given the service. I was 20 minutes late but my boyfriend apologised profusely and ordered a pitcher pf drinks while he waited and we made sure we gave the table back ten minutes before it was needed so we felt the obvious pressure we were put under was so rude. We endured the meal without actually enjoying any of it. We love eating out locally and we don't mind spending on a great meal but this was a complete waste of hard earned money. We felt we were putting the staff out throughout the meal!

Dear harto88,

We are very sorry that we have let you down on this occasion as regards our service standards.

As with all restaurants on the Main Street in Maynooth presently Friday and Saturday evenings are choc-a-block busy we very high demand with customers coming from all over North Kildare, Meath & West Dublin to dine in the vibrant & bustling gastro town that Maynooth has become over the past 5 years. As such, our week-ends are generally fully booked up a week or two in advance.

When your partner rang to book the table we were already fully booked & he opted for a pre-early sitting meal from 5pm to 7pm knowing that the table was required back a few minutes before 7pm to accommodate another reservation. Your partner arrived a few minutes late to the table and you followed nearly 25/30 minutes later; by arriving late to the table you put undue pressure on yourselves to rush through your meal.

This is a situation we never like to put any of our customers through and we always allow a minimum of 2 hrs between booking times (some times even up to 3 hrs depending on the table size) to allow our customers sufficient time to enjoy a 2 or 3 course meal.

As regards the moving of tables and general setting up of the restaurant in advance of a busy night ahead; I must apologise for this. Unfortunately, another group called at the last minute to add a further two guests to their party - at this stage we were already fully booked and had very little options in front of us to accommodate them. We had to reshuffle our tables at the last minute to fit them in (normally this kind of set up is done much earlier in the day) and as a result your dining experience was affected. For this we are very sorry.

We pride ourselves on providing a consist high level of service of all of our customers whether it is for lunch, early afternoon or the evening. Our waiters approached your table on numerous occasions throughout your meal (you stated yourself that you our staff offered to take your order on x3 separate occasions) so I would be a bit surprised if the level of service shown to your table was any less than shown to the rest of our customers on the same night.

You both managed to order & enjoy your drinks, tapas & desserts in less than an hour and a half so I would assume that we would have showed your table a swift and prompt service on the day in question given the tight time you had on the table.

I am truly sorry if you felt that you "endured" your meal rather than enjoyed it; we always set out to give each and every one of our customers an enjoyable & value for money dining experience and we are very sorry that we let you down on this occasion.

However, we are very glad to see that you enjoyed an evening of drinks later in our sister restaurant's Cocktail bar across the road.

I hope that we can see you return to Picaderos another evening without any time restrictions and enjoy a relaxed carefree evening of tapas & wine with us.

I would love to hear back from you directly and arrange a gesture of goodwill to see you return to the restaurant to make up for your most recent mixed experience.

You can contact me at info@picaderos.ie.

Again, apologies.

We have been here several times and the fact we keep going back says a lot. We were sitting at 9pm and although seated quickly felt that we were a little forgotton about and had to search out the service. We went for the Tapas menu and it offers many great options. Our orders came out very quickly and didn't disappoint.
