We were spending a long weekend in Marlow and picked this restaurant. I am so glad I did because the whole experience was superb.
The young waiting staff were polite, attentive (but not over the top) and knowledgeable. They knew the menu and the wine list. One of them told me that the chef works on his own and has done for years. Granted it is only a small place (20 covers?) but that is quite a work load.
There is a fantastic selection of gins and mixers in the aperitif section but I confess we started with malt whisky. We watched another table having their gins and they looked magnificent but it wasn't the right weather for us.
An excellent selection of half bottles of wine for such a small place - always our preferred choice when there's just two of us but the very expensive hotel restaurant where we were staying had none!
The food was quite superb - honestly one of the best meals we have had including some at Michelin starred restaurants. I started with Loomswood Duck Breast with Celeriac Remoulade -perfectly cooked duck - and finished with cheese (accompanied by a glass of Tokaji). My partner had Salad of Goats Cheese with Beetroot followed by Braised Lamb Shank, Creamed Potatoes and Madeira Jus.
If we return, I would have the Gourmand menu!

We went as a family for a special birthday and all had the reasonably priced fixed lunch menu.

There were some very good things about this restaurant- I like the smallness of the restaurant but this does mean the tables are very close together and chairs are bumped together when getting up and down with your neighbours.

The starters of goats cheese salad and risotto were very good. The salmon main course was a little disappointing as there wasn’t much taste and it was obviously farmed salmon. The beef was perfect but the lamb too unfortunately didn’t have much taste.

Puddings of pannacotta and pears were great.

Two of the waiting staff were very good but one person sadly let the service slip. A bread roll was dropped on the floor, wrong meals were placed down but mainly there was a lot of reaching across the guests to reach others when there was plenty of space to reach all guests around the table.

Overall a good meal but not perfect.

Nb. There is a large pay and display car park behind the large Sainsbury’s

Thank cath b

We've been to this restaurant several times over the year's and the meals have been exceptional. The fixed price menu offered during mid week is good value and they have an extensive wine list. Portions are small in the French style and everything is cooked to perfection plus the cheese board is extensive. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. It's a small restaurant in the ground floor area of an old house on West Street so booking is essential. Parking can be a challenge on the street so use the public parking farther down the street.
