Great Service & Food!

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 4 weeks agovia mobile
Just stayed for one night while on a cycling tour of Norfolk.
Very friendly and welcoming team who couldn’t be any more helpful, particularly the management and owners.
Comfy room, could do with a bit of investment, particularly the bathroom, but otherwise good.
The food was very good for dinner and breakfast, again with excellent service.

I used to go to bank house for a long time I used to have a great group of friends that worked there. They’ve gone now but still an ok place to drink very expensive but not a bad place especially since it’s on the river good place to watch the sun set atmosphere a bit meh. But it’s okay

This is a very old, historical, atmospheric building, the manager was friendly and very helpful particularly at checkin.
The bed was huge and very comfortable, the room large and well equipped.
The only reason I mark this property down is that it is slightly shabby with furniture dusty and the shower cubicle paint flakey.
The staff at breakfast were friendly and attentive, but at a busy service one evening, they obviously couldn’t cope. There was a total lack of eye contact and they avoided coming near our table to take our order. We left the restaurant in the end (before having our order taken) and went elsewhere!
The hotel is excellently placed in King’s Lynn within walking distance of the town centre.
We would definitely stay again.

Room tip: Note - there isn’t a lift (due to the age of the building). Staff would benefit from a little customer relations training.

Just felt compelled to write a review. We arrived very late and the manager on the counter was really understanding and more than helpful in making sure we were sorted for our stay. Our room was to die for, overlooking the quay and just everything was perfect for us both. The hotel is stooped in history and it is definitely the most quirkiest hotel we have ever stayed in. Just reading the guest book which is full of compliments from people from all over the world highlights the wonder of this delightful hotel.

After a good nights sleep the breakfast was second to none, with everything you could wish for. We would like to compliment the chef for such a commendable breakfast - it was very special and most of all fresh!!! Finally may we take a moment to pass on our good wishes to the adorable waitress who served us - she was a wonder, and put us in a good mood for the day ahead!!

Be seeing you again guys and once again A BIG THANK YOU!!!

Room tip: Read the Guest Book and try to eat in the hotel the food was excellent!!!

The reviews below are a bit mixed - some very good, some not so great. So I'll try to give some balance.

We stayed for one night in the Captain's Room. It was spacious, had a big comfy bed, sofa and chair - and a stand alone bath. It also overlooks the river and where we parked our car. We had a good sleep (perhaps reading in the hot bath is a good sleep aid!). The bathroom was good too, nice shower. In the evening, we drank in the bar and then ate dinner in the restaurant - super beef & ale pie with veg followed by syrup sponge and custard. Good service! And the location is great - old KL was surprisingly nice and we had a walk to the church before dinner and a walk to the market square before breakfast!

What is perhaps letting the hotel down is attention to detail. A couple of things in the room and also at the breakfast bar could have been better but I suspect they just weren't spotted. So my rating is really 4 minus with the great location, nice room, good dinner and nice cooked breakfast let down by some little things.

However, on balance, we had a good stay. So, if you can live with it not being perfect, then the captain's room and the restaurant make for a nice stay in a very good location for seeing old Kings Lynn.
