Wonderful 3 Night stay on golfing trip

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 23, 2024via mobile
There are some great courses in this part of England. We played Woodhall spa on the first morning then drove 90 minutes to stay here. Played Hunstanton and Royal Norwich each of the next two days. In between we got to enjoy this lovely property. We stayed in one of the five cabins, which were roomy and very comfortable. They are doing a lot of things right at this spot….fridge with milk for morning coffee, binoculars and birding books in rooms, nice in room supplies. There’s a smallish but quality spa with an indoor pool, outdoor hot tub and steam and saunas; all facing a lovely pasture. I had a 90 minute massage with Lena that was outstanding. The restaurant is top notch and i’ve a separate review on that (call The Samphire) where they use local produce, some grown in their kitchen garden. A perfect place to come home to relax after playing 18.

Lovely hotel, we have stayed here many times. Food delicious as always and staff polite. My husband and I had a treatment in the spa for the first time which was lovely. Have always stayed in stunning rooms, this time was an exception which was slightly disappointing. We were given Woodsage, which had a patio area which was lovely. However, there were dog hairs on the carpet and dog nose marks over the inside of the patio doors. I did tell reception on leaving. The room was quite tired needing paintwork touch ups and some of the bathroom fittings had limescale on. All in all, had a lovely stay, but this particular room does need attention which is a shame.

Amazing place, food was out of this world, in a lovely country setting, clean and tidy, spa was beautiful so was our treatment full body massage. Staff so friendly and felt like we was treated like a king and queen . Nothing was too much, rooms clean and spacious.
only small thing is children should have own swimming section and not in the spa area. But would definitely recommend. Also dogs allowed. X

After seeing such great reviews we were really looking forward to our 2 night stay here however although we had a nice break felt a little disappointed considering how much it costs to stay here. We started with afternoon tea which was nice I wouldn’t say anything to wow you but we enjoyed, service was a little lacking no one came over to see how everything was nor offer any more drinks.
The room was clean, lovely bathroom with a brilliant shower and toiletries. The promise of larder & homemade cookies fell a little short it was a cupboard with your average tea/coffee making facilities and 2 cookies not much bigger than a £2 coin. The room was just so hot given it was a west facing room and the 2 days we were there was very warm! a fan was provided if it hadn’t I’m not sure I’d have been able to stay in the room I didn’t sleep well due to this! Appeared some empty rooms whilst we stayed so perhaps consideration into where people get put would be good.
Breakfast had nice choices but badly executed. Poached apricots were your typical bagged dried apricots with a drizzle of vanilla not what was described nor expected. croissants were cold out of a packet should have been at least warmed through. The sausage had chewy skins and did not strike me as a good quality sausage (we buy all our meat from local butchers)
The spa was small but nice however we were put off going on loungers and fully relaxing by the amount of people smoking and vaping on outside. Smoking should not be aloud in spa facilities and I think this also goes for outside on decking area where everyone is, staff were lovely but fully aware of this.
The hotel grounds are nice but one niggle there’s no where to just sit and just enjoy except restaurant terrace, there was a bird poo covered bench near to a swing and one in the tennis court that was it?
We’ve stayed in lots of places just as nice at half the price 😞

Thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to leave a review. We are pleased you enjoyed various aspects of your time here.

With regard to some of the other points you make:

1. We regularly review our pricing to ensure it is competitive in relation to other hotels of a similar standard in this area of Norfolk.

2. The tea/coffee making facilities in all rooms include a Nespresso machine, coffee pods and fresh milk. The home-made biscuits are not large cookie size, but certainly considerably larger than a £2 coin.

3. Our reservations team do consider the most appropriate allocation of rooms for guests but, during your stay, all other rooms of the same or a higher standard to that which you had booked were occupied, so no upgrade was available. We would, of course, never allocate a guest a room below their selected tier, so would have been unable to re-room you due to the high occupancy.

4. While not fresh, the apricots are stewed in sugar and vanilla for breakfast. The croissants are freshly baked in the kitchen every morning (and certainly not from a packet). The sausages are from the butcher we have used for many years for all our meat, for which we receive many compliments.

5. Guests should certainly not have been smoking or vaping outside the spa; we apologise if this occurred during your stay and have reminded all relevant staff to ensure this is not permitted.

My wife and I stayed at this lovely hotel a couple of days ago. It has a wide range of facilities both indoors and outdoor with a beautiful garden and well kept open surrounding area. The hotel is very comfortable and well managed with customer service being at the heart from all members of staff. An example of this was shown following a fall my wife had in the morning that drew kind attention and help from the nearby staff. At dinner the hotel manager, Katherine, came to see us and asked how she was. My wife was fine but we were very pleased to see that continued level of care and attention. We would highly recommend this independent hotel and we look forward to returning there again when visiting this part of Norfolk.

Room tip: Make use of the hotels good facilities by reviewing them in advance of your visit.
