“Intimate theatre experience”

The Granary Theatre
Attraction details

The theatre hold 68 but that was not a problem for the Punch and Judy styled show we saw! There were 21 of us and that included the staff who were probably volunteers. It was an interactive show which made it entertaining. The refreshments on offer were very good value

Small, intimate little theatre. Can take drink in with you. Had a great evening. Audience was in good spirits. Nice wine. Marvyn Stutter had us laughing the whole time. Wonderful! Thoroughly recommended.

Such a wonderful, friendly, vibrant place - a small group of dedicated volunteers make this what it is - and Wells residents are so lucky to have it!

The building is old and beautiful (as is the small harbour and seaside town, well worth a visit!). Small and quirky inside, but quite a few seats, steeply raked so you always have a good view of the stage.

The Granary offers a huge variety of entertainment, live music and theatre, cinema and (live by satellite) world class opera, ballet and West End theatre. There are lots of village cinemas around here but this gives something very different, their film buffs seek out interesting options from all over the world (they had an amazing coup, for such a small place, by being one of 300 venues worldwide to judge the MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival).

A homely bar, run by volunteers, good options and prices.

The ticket system has been difficult to navigate previously, but is now managed by the Tourist Info Centre.

If a customer is unable to buy tickets despite making multiple online enquiries, emails and telephone calls then it doesn't matter how good the show or the venue is, they become entirely irrelevant. As a very regular theatre-goer I was very disappointed not to add the Wells Granary Theatre to my list. I spent considerable time on a fruitless attempt to get information and tickets for a forthcoming non-sold out show. My inclination to repeat the experience has been severely dented. My advice? Don't bother trying and go somewhere else.

Hello, we are sorry to hear of your disappointment about trying to book for a show. The Box Office facility is part of the service operated by the Trust, however the performances are booked by our two in house theatre companies and we rely on being sent through the information from them to put onto our website to make tickets available. We have reviewed the email conversation between yourself and the TIC staff, the error was in informing you that tickets would be available at the end of May when in fact it would be more like August as the production is part of the autumn season which won't be confirmed by both groups fully until then. We are very sorry for the lack and difficult communication and hope that if you were to return to book for the Granary Theatre you would find it a lot easier.

Wells has a great little combined theatre and cinema. If you like traditional am dram theatrics look out for one of their special shows where the locals get to strut their stuff, one of the funniest, most bonkers evenings that I've ever spent.
