“A unique holiday experience, highly recommended!”
Reviewed August 18, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

The Carriage is ideally located a couple of miles outside Castle Douglas and a short walk from the Theave estate which is well worth a visit. There is so much to do for the family within a 20min drive, plenty of beaches, the Cocoa Bean chocolate factory, the Ice cream factory and the harbour town of Kirkcudbright. The Carriage is full of information on all the local places of interest, including detailed maps.
My 8 year old son and Labrador enjoyed exploring the land outside The Carriage, which is safe and secure due to the old railway embankments. It is also abundant with local wildlife, the birds being particularly interesting to watch from the comfort of The Carriage.
In short we had a great time, found it a very nice place to stay and the owners to be friendly yet unobtrusive.

“Just... perfect!”
Reviewed August 5, 2015 for a stay in July 2015

As previous guests (we stayed in 2012) we were looking forward to going back to The Carriage and we were not disappointed, in fact, I would go so far as to say that this stay was even better! We arrived late and missed an Asda delivery that we had arranged and the owners (Eric and Maggie) had signed for it and even put it away for us!
The carriage itself is very comfortable and welcoming, the heating is nice and fierce if you need it to be cosy and there are loads of appliances and bits to make your stay as easy as possible.
There's a full size singe oven (this wasn't there on our first stay but it was much appreciated on this one), a large washing machine - a necessity with 2 kids and 2 dogs!, freeview, DVD player, a USB dongle to use, towels and bed linen are supplied as are a couple of loo rolls. There is a clothes airer to dry clothes on.
We used the BBQ that is provided to make s'mores when we had one lovely dry, balmy evening which we all loved.
There's a large garden and the kids and dogs enjoyed all that space to roam around in. Also there is a path that leads down the side of the Station House under a bridge that leads to the river - it's where the old railway line was - which the kids and I donned our willies and raincoats for and went looking for fairies!
Local places to explore that are fun, especially with kids (mine are 8 and 6) are The Cream O Galloway and The Cocoa Bean. We also went to Borgue beach and into Kirkcudbright. Threave castle is a nice trip out and is very close to the Carriage.
Castle Douglas is close by and has a large enough Tesco as well as a high st with loads of shops on and there is a small loch with a playpark next to it.
I'd recommend this as a holiday location to anyone - single, couple, family, old, young - whatever - there is enough around to do and if you don't want to go out, stay in and enjoy your quirky little home for the week!

“great accommodation in a lovely setting”
Reviewed May 29, 2015 for a stay in May 2015

Lovely escape, suitable for young and old alike. Super outdoor space, ideal for games & relaxing. Comfortable & well equipped accommodation.
Well situated for Castle Douglas which has great local facilities, Loch Ken, Dalbeattie and Galloway Forest.
Helpful but unobtrusive owners.
Would recommend to others & hope to return sometime.

We booked the carraige for my husband to relax after an operation, we where not dissopointed. There was four of us who went ( all over 50 ). The carraige is just like in the picture, its well stocked with everything you need. It is so peaceful and relaxing here. The owners are very nice and never trouble you but they are there if you should need them. Would definitely go back for a chilled break. The beds are very comfortable and clean, great power showers, you won't be dissopointed.

This carriage is ideal for a break, it is set in beautiful countryside and perfect for relaxing. The scenery in this area is outstanding. The owners Eric and Maggie were very friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. I will certainly be returning for another stay.
