We stayed in The Old Schoolhouse Luskentyre for one week in May. Fabulous location! Excellent accommodation with everything we could possibly need and a spectacular view. Norman and Leona so welcoming and friendly. Hope to be back if we can manage to get a booking. This is a sought after location

“A window full of sea and sky.”

Excellent place to stay for a few days even in bad weather for me and my dog. With satellite t.v, great wifi connection and a window full of sea and sky it was a most relaxing short break. Walks along a stunning beach via a little path only two minutes away from the cabin provided endless fun for both of us. Although the cabin is built onto the owner's own property it felt completely private. There are no sounds but your own and the sea. Norman and Leona are friendly and approachable but leave you to your time spent in the cabin. Travelling on my own with pooch gave me peace of mind knowing they where there for any questions or requests. Even though we sometimes come home from our walks with the great outdoors still attached and needing washed off, I have a need for clean and the well equipped cabin did not disappoint. I know where I will be heading if I get the chance again for some husband, kid and grand kid free time on my own. Felt a wee bit guilty about that spare room! Managed to shake it off though ;)

“Just Perfect”
Reviewed 6 May 2014 for a stay in April 2014

We stayed for a week at the end of April and what a glorious, sun drenched week we had. This was our 4th visit to the island and I'm certain we won't find better accommodation for our future trips - in fact we've already booked for next year. The Old School is small but has everything you could possibly need - perfect for 2 adults or 2 adults and 2 kids. The area has several quite large properties which ends up being expensive when its just the 2 of you.

The place is possibly the cosiest place we have stayed - even a little bit of sun is enough to warm the place - and if no sun the heating and insulation are amazing. Norman and his family are warm and welcoming and happy to give you the lo down if you want it, but the place still feels quite private.

Everything was spotlessly clean and everything seemed quite new. Lovely wooden floors throughout were perfect for dealing with the inevitable sprinkling of sand everywhere. Unusually there was a gas supply for the hob - nice touch!

And dog friendly! Fellow dog owners will understand the usual compromises associated with holidaying with a dog but here everything was perfect.

And the location itself? Luskentyre beach is 2 minutes walk away (down the track beside the cemetery) or 2 minutes drive down to the end of the road to access Rosamol Beach. Of course the view from the accommodation is astonishing, even when the weather is bad - the big windows are perfect for just gazing at it.

Logistcs wise, we found the coop (actually a community shop) at Leverburgh really well stocked this time, a little bit expensive but that's to be expected. We usually do a big food shop on Skye but we'll shop local next time. Although you'll need to bring enough with you to get through Sunday of course.

The Temple Cafe at Northton is not only in a gorgeous location, the food and service is impeccable. Good coffee too. We went for lunch everyday (closed Mondays) - I am on a dairy free diet and Gail went to extraordinary lengths to accommodate me. You can also do a lovely walk from here to the Temple.

Kayaking was our new find this trip and we can thoroughly recommend the Harris Outdoor Adventure Centre based in Leverburgh. A great way to enjoy the island.

We can't recommend the accommodation, and the Isle of Harris, highly enough. I don't expect to visit anywhere more beautiful than here. And that's why we will return again and again.

“Good accommodation near one of the world's greatest beaches.”

A truly amazing location. Friendly, helpful owner. Immediately behind the cabin, Beinn Dubh is one of the best hills in Scotland, offering panoramic views of the mountains of Harris and beyond to Skye and the far north of Scotland, south to Mull and Barra and west to St Kilda. The beach is unforgettable. Tour South Harris, see the crystal-clear turquoise waters on the west coast and the rocky bays of the east coast. Buy a Harris tweed jacket. And go back again and again...

“So good, we've booked again for next year!”

The annex is a perfectly contained, self catering chalet with everything supplied within it to make it feel like a home from home.
The owners are warm, welcoming and friendly, but will leave you to enjoy your holiday in peace, unless you need them.
Luskentyre beach is a peaceful 5 minute walk away, and is paradise. Mostly we had the beach to ourselves, but it was also a place where we met our fellow holidaying neighbours, and friendships were made.
I would recommend shopping in either Morrissons in Fort William or Coop in Uig before crossing, although there is a small coop in Leverburgh, shop in Tarbert and Tescos in Stornoway.
Remember that everything closes on a Sunday so be mindful not to run out of petrol (especially if getting the Sunday ferry as the closest open mainland garage is 45 miles away in Broadford)
I cannot rate the annex or the island highly enough.
