We stayed for 3 nights, arriving early morning from Lima. Hotel picked us up at the airport without difficulty and even though it was well before check-in time, gave us a room immediately, as well as breakfast. What i really liked about check-in was that there was no delay or even credit card to be given, just sign the exploration waiver and go direct to the room. Excellent job by hotel upon arrival, top marks.
Rooms are quite small, but clean and comfortable, with a beautiful view of the ocean. Even though one is paying $1,500/night, nothing really special about the rooms other than the view. Bath amenities were average, nothing special given the price. Now they did deliver us a bottle of champagne our first night, which was very much appreciated.
No television or internet in the rooms, which is fine by me, room is for sleeping, but wifi in the lobby mostly did not work and that is a major shortcoming for which they must do better, given the cost. I don't need anything fancy, but reliable email and Facebook for posting a few pictures would be nice.
Food quality was excellent, service adequate but nothing special. All food and beverage, including alcohol, was inclusive in the price, with the exception of premium wines. Language skills were below average, as well as follow-up. Never asked if we wanted something else while having drinks and always had to go back to the bar for seconds. Once again, given the price, needs major improvement.
The excursions are the highlight of Explora and why one books this property, along with its isolated and beautiful location. We did 6 excursions and the guides were phenomenal, very knowledgable, actually above our expectations. If staying in town, one will have to book their own excursions, whereas at Explora, they are included in the price and in very small groups.
Overall, I loved the excursions and enjoyed the property, but not sure i would recommend given the price. Staff tried, were very nice, but i still feel they can improve the service quality, given the value proposition. I would also add the road leading into the property needs major improvement as well.
