the staff waiting on the airport for a warm pick up and drive to the aaamazing hotel.
it is very well integrated in the surrounding.

the rooms are likely designed and the food is one of the best we had in south america.

the explorations are good organized and like anybody in the hotel with locals. you can also set up your trips together with a guide.
The staffs knows a lot about the island and is interesting to hear about the history and thinking of the people.

and when you leave the room you will meet some wild horses 2m away...

Dear traveler,

I want to thank you very much for your kind feedback and review.

Indeed Easter Island’s free roaming horses outnumber the island’s inhabitants. explora’s Rapa Nui lodge attained silver LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council in February 2009, which made it the first in South America. Our commitment to the environment is unwavering.

The hotel is great, it really sets up the mood for what you are about to live.
The best part of all this experience, is the whole pack... The guides are locals, and have the most amazing stories to tell! The tours are great, and they end with a small cocktail to celebrate!
The island itself is beautiful and mystic. That said, i think its a must to go around it with guides, otherwise you miss the whole story behind everystone, Moai, road etc.

Would defenetly go back!

Dear traveler,

Thank you very much for your enthusiastic review.

Rapa Nui’s history is fascinating and mystical and I couldn’t agree more with you about the need for local and experienced guides. It is their perspective on their history and ancestors that shines a special light on the island and culture.

Please remember that after visiting one explora destination or Travesías, you are entitled to the benefits of our CESA - Club Exploradores del Sur de América - a recognition program with benefits including rate discounts and room upgrades for repeat travelers.

Thank you again for taking the time to review your explora Rapa Nui travel experience.

We stayed for 3 nights, arriving early morning from Lima. Hotel picked us up at the airport without difficulty and even though it was well before check-in time, gave us a room immediately, as well as breakfast. What i really liked about check-in was that there was no delay or even credit card to be given, just sign the exploration waiver and go direct to the room. Excellent job by hotel upon arrival, top marks.

Rooms are quite small, but clean and comfortable, with a beautiful view of the ocean. Even though one is paying $1,500/night, nothing really special about the rooms other than the view. Bath amenities were average, nothing special given the price. Now they did deliver us a bottle of champagne our first night, which was very much appreciated.

No television or internet in the rooms, which is fine by me, room is for sleeping, but wifi in the lobby mostly did not work and that is a major shortcoming for which they must do better, given the cost. I don't need anything fancy, but reliable email and Facebook for posting a few pictures would be nice.

Food quality was excellent, service adequate but nothing special. All food and beverage, including alcohol, was inclusive in the price, with the exception of premium wines. Language skills were below average, as well as follow-up. Never asked if we wanted something else while having drinks and always had to go back to the bar for seconds. Once again, given the price, needs major improvement.

The excursions are the highlight of Explora and why one books this property, along with its isolated and beautiful location. We did 6 excursions and the guides were phenomenal, very knowledgable, actually above our expectations. If staying in town, one will have to book their own excursions, whereas at Explora, they are included in the price and in very small groups.

Overall, I loved the excursions and enjoyed the property, but not sure i would recommend given the price. Staff tried, were very nice, but i still feel they can improve the service quality, given the value proposition. I would also add the road leading into the property needs major improvement as well.

Room Tip: i believe all the rooms have ocean views, but check with the hotel to be sure

Dear traveler,

Thank you very much for your detailed review.

I want to apologize for the Internet issues that you have experienced during your stay at explora Rapa Nui. While we believe that travelers should disconnect during their travels, we equally firmly realize that for many the connectedness to the rest of the world via e-mail and social media is vital. Our telephone and internet connection is via satellite connection and occasionally the communication is down or spotty. We realize this is not an ideal thing, for which are constantly talking to our supplier to improve the internet and phone service.

Your seem to have enjoyed a lot about explora Rapa Nui, including your room and views, the food, our selection of wines and drinks, the explora guides and the excursions. Sadly, you don’t seem have been pleased with explora’s restaurant service, for which I am very sorry. We continually work on keeping explora’s service level very high, however, since you remarked on the lack of follow up for more drinks, we will definitely address this issue internally. Service is something we focus on daily basis and don´t take for granted the many elements that play into a perfect overall one. This clearly shows us that we cannot then take any pride that explora Rapa Nui just received a perfect score of 100% from the Travel + Leisure readers this year in the magazine’s 2012 World's Best Service roundup when we read comments like yours. For us, service does not rest, and it appears that in your case that was not the case. We continually thrive to maintain the Travel + Leisure honor; something can only be obtained by focusing on the negative aspect of our service. We appreciate your feedback.

Yours sincerely,

Jesús Parrilla

I recently took my wife and two teenage sons to this wonderful resort. It exceeded our expectations in every way. The guides were all very knowledgable and helpful. We wanted to understand the history and culture of the island in detail. This was met in every respect. Two guides stood out on our visit, Beno and Christian. Beno was recently interviewed for a National Geographic article about Easter Island. He readily shared his knowledge and opinions with us. It was fascinating. Christian took our 2 teenagers on a bike ride to the highest point on the island. They loved it!! Christian was very cool according to them!! The rooms were outstanding. Great views of the ocean and very comfortable. They are also decorated in a unique island manner. The meals were first class. Lots of variety and very attentive service. There was WIFI in the bar area and it worked well. Finally, Giovanna, the hotel manager was very visible and engaged with the guests. The day we left, she got up at 5am to see us off. We loved this place. Easter Island is a long way to travel to if you live in the USA as we do. Explora Rapa Nui made the trip one of the best we have ever taken. Go to Easter Island. Enjoy this resort and learn all you can about the wonderful Rapa Nui culture while you are there. It truly is a trip of a lifetime.

Dear traveler,

Thank you so very much for your enthusiastic review.

The qualification “cool” from teenage children certainly ranks very high for explora! Honestly, I couldn’t be more excited to read about your explora experience. You and your family seem to have explored the mystical island in varied ways and learned as a family along the way. explora is proud to have played a part in this travel experience and memory.

This is mystic, and great, and a memory not to be forgotten. This beautiful lodge, wooden arcades, on this wonderful island. The whole island is mystic, of course, one great archeological site.
The explora formula is simple: luxury, being pampered, the greatest food and wines and very nice room on the one hand; hiking with all the great guides on the other. Each evening your guide will sit down with you and discuss the programme for th next day. Walking the volcano, seeing the quarry, caves, beaches, islets, history, etc. Almost all guides are local and cherish the tradition this island breathes. We had a great time!
