No wonder this park is so popular which is the only downside. We saw 3 or types of lemurs and half a dozen different types of birds and insects. My favourite was a tiny giraffe beetle which I had seen in wildlife films. We were there walking around with a superb guide(. Patres)

This is probably the best national park we visited in Madagascar, and certainly the best rainforest park. Wear long pants, not because of leeches (the reason or guide gave us), but because you will likely do some bushwhacking to see lemurs. The guides are excellent, and they work cooperatively. Expect some strenuous up and down hiking. The trails are pretty easy, but if your guide spots lemurs off the trail, you'll be headed pell-mell up or down very steep hillsides into the jungle. Bring binoculars and a long camera lens -- the lemurs here are not habituated to humans and tend to keep their distance, often way up in the very tall trees. The calls of the Indiri lemurs are very cool -- almost like whale songs.

This was our introduction to wild life in Madagascar and it was amazing. Paths were relatively easy and we saw lemurs, chameleons etc. for the first time in their own habitat.

Many trails to choose from. You have to have a guide. Ours was very knowledgeable. We were lucky to see a number of different lemurs, most within a reasonably close distance.

We were amazed at the undeveloped nature of this park. The roads in made the forest service roads back in Colorado look like super highways. A local guide is mandatory. We had John. I sure wish I had gotten his last name as he was unbelievably good. All the other guides sort of followed us around waiting for John to find things. This was moderately strenuous hiking up and down fairly rugged trails. I am 65 and in very good shape (ski, mountain bike, hike at 10,000'+ year round).
