We were a group of 12 people travelling for a convention and we were all facinated. Facilities of the hotel are just amazing with cozy and spotless rooms. The overall atmosphere makes you feel you have traveled to Germany, also the view from the bedroom terrace was spectacular. The staff is always very friendly and extremely helpful. There is no proper words to describe the food, and by that we mean is just awesome! We were very pleased with the hotel and its service, and would definitely visite them again.

I love this posada! It is a bit outside of town, so it's nice to have a car while you are there in Colonia Tovar to get in to see the small tourist sites or buy fresh produce from local growers in the village. If you go during "Oktovarfest" in October, the posada can help arrange golf-cart taxis to shuttle you between the posada and the festivities. The posada itself is cozy and beautiful. They decorate the rooms with such nice fairy-tale-like touches, such as fresh flowers all over the room (in vases and also tucked into the bathrobes, towels, etc.) and lace doilies. Dinner is tasty, and breakfast is super awesome (I looooove the "arepas dulces" with nata cream!). Sometimes they even have live music during dinner. When you come back to the posada after a walk around town there is usually tea, coffee, and cake in the lobby for guests to enjoy. When you awake in the morning there is usually a small wicker basket with a thermos of coffee and biscuits to hold you over until the big breakfast starts. The grounds are pretty, with lots of flowers and views of the valley and town below. A great getaway from the bustle of Caracas! PS: on the way out of town stop by the ceramics store for a nice piece of glazed pottery to commemorate your visit!

Room Tip: Rooms close to the kitchen can get noisy in the morning; the master BR in the original house has nice views on 2 sides and a balcony.

I went with my husband to Colonia Tovar in December 2013 for a 3 day trip. The hotel was amazing with cozy, spotless rooms and a large very comfortable bed. The overall atmosphere of the bedroom and the hotel makes you feel that you have traveled to a part of Germany. The view from the bedroom terrace was spectacular. The only disappointment was that they didn't offer any meals during the weekdays. My recommendation is that they should at least serve breakfast and drinks, although they offered us complementary coffee and a cookie every morning. Sra Mary was very friendly and extremely helpful and recommended to us the best places to dine in town (Hotel Bergland and Selva Negra). Overall we were very pleased with the hotel and its service, and we would definitely go again.

I staid 3 nights there, for a good romantic trip. The hotel stands up to its reputation, the view is superb, it has a small but well tended garden, the food is usually very good (we got one miss at Christmas, but otherwise nothing to complain about. Our room was a small one, and the bathroom was very poor and small, but the bed is excellent and the general decoration adds to the coziness, and we could also enjoy a nice terrace. Attention was what to expect, personal and cordial. So yes, it is great for a romantic stay where you do not plan to do much except sample the local fruit and food. But I was sad to have seen how much Colonia Tovar has deteriorated: 10 years ago, it was a beautiful and clean German town. Now, it is totally run down: cheap buildings, litter everywhere including in the beautiful streams and charming cemetery, 4x4 iand loud quads nvading the city center. It is a testimony about how this beautiful country is being vandalized.

I was there with my husband and 3 teenagers. It was Carnaval, not the best time to visit Colonia Tovar as it gets awfully overcrowded, you simply can't walk around the town without bumping into people.
On the other hand, POSADA DON ELICIO was a true oasis. It's rooms are beautifully decorated with plenty of 'antique' details, reminds you of a Bed & Breakfast in Maine. Food is simply delicious and presented so tastefully that every meal is an event. One night we had violinists on the Dinning terrace, and another night we were visited by typical german 'elves' I guess, with creative costumes and funny dancers.
We spent our day playing cards, reading and once we stepped outside to the crowds, rushed back to the hotel again
It was a truly relaxing and delicious experience. They also offer day tours to the beach
