I stayed in Genetics Guest House for two nights in November of 2015.
ROOM: Double room was reasonably clean, and the beds were actually pretty comfortable. Prices, after a bit of haggling, were in focus with other budget lodgings of similar standards in Ethiopia. Also, TV in the room worked quite well, actually.
BATHROOM: I would not call the ensuite bathroom "clean", but I would call it "clean by Ethiopian budget lodging standards". Good enough. Hot water heater worked, thankfully.
INTERNET: WiFi worked - sometimes yes, usually no (normal for Ethiopia). The best spot to TRY to get internet service is directly under the router, which is mounted on the exterior of the building (not in reception). You'll find it.
ANNOYANCES: Touts tend to hang out in the lobby of the hotel and on the stairs to the guest rooms, trying to scam travelers on HIGHLY overpriced city tours and hikes. Really, really annoying. Management needs to throw these guys out, ASAP. We got accosted directly outside of our room and at reception. Offensive.
NAME: The name of this place is still strange to me. Genetics? Sounds like a research facility, not a guest house.
Totally acceptable budget lodgings in Gonder, annoyances considered. Passing grade.More
