Nice views of the lake from a private beach. The staff are attentive and the food is quite good. Rooms are clean.

Room Tip: Try to avoid the bottom floor if possible (people on the top can be loud as they walk on the wood fl...

We were staying at an acquaintance's house in Ruhengeri. This hotel is a short drive over the mountain toward the Braliwra brewery on the shore of Lake Kivu. There is an excellent view out onto the lake and also toward the small fishing facility on the bay. Several other hotels are located along he shore road. A peninsula projects into the lake with outdoor tables for dinner. Unfortunately, these were already occupied, so we took a table closer to the open air but covered dining room. This was fortunate, as when the rain started, we were the first inside and got the best table.
The most popular dish for our party was the tilapia. Much better than tilapia in the US. The filets were thick sweet and moist. Each chose a different preparation: provencal, a mushroom sauce, I forget the third. I had goat brochette with fries and salad, adequate but needed a marinade.
As an appetizer, I thought that I ordered sambosas, a Rwandan spicy meat pastry. I had misread the menu and received a platter of sambazas (see pic, oops did not load) If you don't speak Kyrirwandan, be sure to ask. The last time I had this dish, I was 8 years old catching and frying smelt on the Jersey shore. These were better though not what I expected.
If you are looking for a meal with great surroundings, adequate service, well prepared dishes and reasonable price, I recommend this property

I was traveling around Rwanda alone and wanted a few days to relax at the lake. Malahide Paradis was exactly what I was looking for! The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was amazing. It was a great place to relax and read a book (or two!) at their small, private beach on the lake. It was fun to take in a bit of the Gisenyi life as well...girls singing in the distance, boys playing in the water and fisherman whistling as they canoed out every evening. It was great for solo travelers but I met families and couples enjoying themselves as well. I highly recommend staying here!!

The view was outstanding, the little beach they have gives you comfort and cosiness. Near by church and a prayers on Sunday makes you in love with this place. No doubt best tilapia in Gisenyi and its always fresh as fisherman bring them every morning after good night catch. Dont want to start talking about the staff, my advice, try to talk to them and they will make you somehow special:)

Thanks for a lovely weekend!

Room Tip: i dont think if you could choose, as they are always nearly fully booked. I would go for bungalow nu...

People seem to rave about this place, but I just found it to be average. The location is amazing, no doubt, but the rooms are more rustic than I thought they would be; for instance, the hot water didn't work much of the time. Also, if you don't have your own car, it can be hard to get around from here. The restaurant is similarly scenic, with a firepit at night, and lake views, but the food was just okay (bfast was good).

My husband and I had a very peaceful and pleasant stay. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Our room was very clean and spacious. The setting was lovely and you could hear the sounds of the local community (children singing, fisherman singing) which added to Gisenyi's cultural charm. Would recommend this place for anyone looking to get away from it all and have a quiet holiday from the big, bad city.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the top floor in the guest house over a bungalow if you want to sit on a balcony an...
