“Remarkable place for making lifelong memories”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 March 2012

We had a wonderful time visiting the Volcanoes National Park. Gorilla tracking was the life-punctuating experience we imagined. But we enjoyed Golden Monkey tracking just as much! Far fewer people track the monkeys but it was a great experience - we were surrounded by about 60 animals, got some great photos, and they were lots of fun. It costs $100 and it's a really good idea to support conservation of another species. For visitors to the park, I would recommend that you spend some time seeing the rest of Rwanda also - it is a beautiful and interesting country with a burdensome history and it's worth getting to know the place a bit.

“gorrillas”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 March 2012

The gorrillas are a highlight and a once in a lifetime oportunity. you will need to arrange your own transport to get from either kinigy or Rhuengari up to the park headquarters and then after the groups of people are sorted out your transport will take you on to your location to start treking (ofter a 45 min drive away). The 4x4 will cost you 80 to 100 USD unless you can find someone to share the jeep with you.

“Amazing weekend in Rwanda”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 March 2012

We booked a trip to see the gorillas for a long weekend on a week's notice. AA Safaris based in Uganda were fantastic. The trip was better than expected and the fact that they pulled it together at the last minute was great. The accomodations at Mountain Gorilla View lodge were wonderful and our driver Eric exceeded all expectations. The actual Gorilla trek was a once in a lifetime experience. We specifically asked our driver to talk to the guides so that we could see one of the larger families and the one with the most babies/young once. Our group had 24 gorillas, 9 of which were little ones! And it was an easy hike in. Great experience!!!

“Amazing experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 March 2012

The Rwanda development board has established a very well organised system for the gorilla treks. Was pleasantly suprised at how well organised everything was-the guides are all excellent and really care about you enjoying the experience. Not sure exactly how the different level of groups is organised but it all seems to work out well - I have a feeling the drivers can influence the group you are put in so keep that in mind!

“Well worth it!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 March 2012

We spent a fascinating hour watching the mountain gorillas, which was well worth the cost of the park fee. The visit was well organized, though there was about an hour-long wait in the morning while the guides and groups got organized at the meeting place. There are hot drinks, bathrooms and entertainment from a traditional dance troupe at the meeting place, and after the groups are organized, you drive a short distance to begin the hike into the park. Once we got to the park, it took the trackers some time to locate our gorilla group, and then it was a steep and slippery two-hour hike around the edges of the park to reach the gorillas. Fortunately, we were provided with walking sticks by the guide at the outset of our hike, which came in handy. Inside the park there are no paths, so we had to grab onto dense wet vegetation to haul ourselves up a 45-degree slope where we perched, somewhat precariously, and watched the gorillas. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly, and helped make the overall experience quite enjoyable.
