A great hotel overlooking the channel between Java and Bali.
Rooms are good value, and well sized, staff are friendly. It's a bit remote from town, but has a good restaurant and it makes a great base for a trip to Ijen crater.

This is a nice resort hotel with rooms scattered throughout the well maintained gardens. Rooms are quite standard, nothing special but comfortable.
The pool area is a good size with plenty of sun loungers. There is access to the public beach which is okay to walk along but the sea has strong currents and swimming is not recommended.
The restaurant had a wide range of western and local options and the food was fine. We set off early in the morning to visit Ijen Crater and were given a very dull packed breakfast.
Guests were a mix of tourists and local expats so the atmosphere and dress code were relaxed.

The idea of remote area doesn't bother my choice to this hotel.
I was upset with a service and room condition. I came there with poor health condition. I expected there would be pharmacy or at least the hotel management provided OTC medicine for guests, but they don't have. What I hate most, I had to be a little bit persuasive to ask receptionist to get paracetamol I wanted. Not only that, after he called back to say yes and security would help, it took quite long time to get one of them in front of my room door, and I had to get up and walk out to reception area, and along the way i met a security and handed over the note of name of medicine i would like them to buy.
Second thing, the sink did not properly work. The used water has not gone away quick and puddle the sink. I didn't have any motivation to call them again after what has happened the night before. It might take another loooooooong wait.

The hotel has very nice garden which is the virtue.

My suggestion to hotel :
Please put a staff to actively welcome the guests because you never know if the guests are very new to the town. Beside welcoming them, offer also the best tour that guests possibly want to do or the transportation they want to use if the guests are confident to go alone by themselves.

After backpacking across Java for three weeks we chose this place to chill out in a bit of comfort before heading across to Bali. We found it the day before in the Lonely Planet Guide and what a great choice!
BAR: Down the end of the foyer and another down by the pool. The foyer was very large, comfortable and open. A great place to sit and chill plus the beer was very cold and very cheap.
STAFF: The reception was very helpful and tried hard as most had only limited English, although it wasn't an issue. The hotel was quiet when we arrived so we got a room of our choice heavily discounted. This was offered not asked for so it was a good start. From the gardeners to the chef we found all the staff very polite and respectful.
FOOD: Primarily Indonesian and limited European. Anyone who loves Indonesian food will be very satisfied. Also very cheap which was a great (although Java is very cheap anyway. Even compared to Bali)
POOL: Big with maintained surrounds and a great view overlooking Bali. Plenty of sun lounges to catch some rays and towels were plentiful. The water was cool (not cold) and clean.
ROOMS: After weeks of backpacking it was clean and luxurious. Being large, well lit and having a king size bed was good enough but the huge bathroom was awesome. Anyone not happy with the room would be very hard to please.
LOCATION: Only 5 minutes to the ferry with a great view overlooking Bali. The most noticeable thing about the hotel is the beautiful internal surrounds. Lots of manicured lawn with paths set amongst palm trees and gardens. Also hidden villas.
GUESTS: Very few at the time. Mostly Indonesian (many high ranking army with wife's) and some European couples
RATING:If you just want to relax with a book, have a swim and forget about the world look no further

We stayed at the Ketapang Indah Hotel on a roundtrip tour in Indonesia and used the hotel as a base to explore the Ijen Mountain Area and as a hub for our crossing to Bali.
The Ketapang Indah, although described as a hotel in Balinese style, is a complex of straightforward concrete housing blocks with one central open area that serves both as reception and restaurant.
The buildings are definitely not beautiful but the setting is. The garden is a well tended space with lots of flowers and palm trees. There is a rather large pool but a lack of sunbeds around it (in comparison to the number of people that can stay in the hotel)
Rooms are clean, bathrooms spacious but without any particular style. At the moment we checked in some rooms in our complex were still being renovated and from the distinct smell (not nice) in our room we could see that ours had been done up recently as well.
Breakfast is poor. We got up early one morning to explore Ijen (as so many tourists staying at Ketapang Indah do) and the choice and lay out would just not do. The only breakfast really available was indonesian food. Scrambled eggs were soggy, cold and when asked to fry some eggs for us this was done without too much motivation.
The only bread available was stale bread right out of a plastic bag (they did not even do anything to hide that).
The food in the restaurant in the evening was plain to say the least and not really good. The first evening starter and main course were thrown on the table virtually together. When we made it clear that we wanted some time in between, the main course was taken away with a smile and served stone cold with the same smile half an hour later. After we had complained about it, the error was immediately undone and warm food was served.
I would not recommend the Ketapang for the obvious reasons described above.

Good base and nice hotel to stay before going up to the Kawah Ijen crater in the early hours on the next morning. The hotel is situated in a park next to the sea - you can see Bali island on the opposite.
The ferry station is within 5 km;
