After stoping by the park headquarters, we were received by Andrea who was very helpful and gave us good advice for a hike. We drove to the park and did a 5 h hiking that took us through all the scenery options of the Carpathians: thick forest, grassland and beautiful gorges.
There are options for people from all ages and time constraints. I would definitely recommend buying the park map (sturdy paper and very informative)

We have hiked from Zarnesti to Curmatura Chalet and back. Very beautiful scenery, well marked paths and excellent surprise at the end of the journey - the chalet is very nice, well maintained and they serve fabulous food. We came back on a different track compared to the way up, which made the whole trip extremely nice. Weather was not great, but at least it did not rain.

Piatra Craiului offers well-marked and gear ed (where neccessary) trails able to satisfy every hikers needs. You can easily find some cabanas with simple but quite good (and cheap) food. From a naturalistic point of view, Carpathian Mountains are nothing less then our Italian Alps.

We left the car at Plaiul Foii Lodge, and bought two tickets from the blue machine in front of there (5 RON / pax, no change). Then we took the road to the left, then the path to Spirlea, only for around one hour (it looked more and more like raining, something we were not quite prepared for). Sights are heavenly when looking up to the top, I cannot imagine how is it from there.
Pay attention to the wild animals. There is a warning sign for bears. We have seen a fox.
I definitely want to come back one day, for a day trip to the top and back.
