Rob and I visited the level for the 3rd time in 2 years during the spring of 2017. We went back because the first time we were staying in their facility, we received wonderful accommodations, great service, etc. The food did leave a little to be desired. The second time we went, the service was a little less, but still, location was key. So we decided to go a 3rd time. Big Mistake.

Rob has a hard time walking, we asked to be put in a room as close to the beach and facilities as possible. We were given a room 6 buildings away. We ended up having to take a room on the second floor, just so he did not have to walk as far. By the way, the second floor balconies are very closed in. Forget about that beautiful airy feel. The room itself seemed very shabby and the service was sub-par. The entertainment was, to say the least, terrible.

We waited for over 46 minutes for transportation from the back of the facility to the front for dinner. If we wanted to take the extra walk to the main building, it would have been shorter, but then the reason we did not was because of the overly long walk.

Staff was not as friendly and we felt like we were being dismissed. There were no extra treats in our room like there was on our first 2 visits. Sometimes it the little details that matter. We did get the pillows we requested and that was wonderful.

The final blow came when it was time to check out. We were told to call at least 20 minutes prior to our check out and someone would come get our bags. We called 45 minutes ahead. No one came. We called 20 minutes out and nobody came. We called 10 minutes out and nobody came. We had 2 large suit cases on the second floor and NO ONE to help. It was hard enough for us to get up and down those steps. Needles to say, with NO RESPONSE after 3 to 4 calls, we had to drag the suit cases down the steps, take them all the way to the Level check in building. This meant dragging them past 3 building, around the pool, up the walkway and to the area where we waited for the shuttles to be sure we reached the airport in time. Being that he had a hard enough time walking, this was quite difficult. We felt insulted, disregarded, and left with a sour taste in our mouths for this facility.

The first time we went, we had butler service, etc. We went on the same plan this time and no response. Checking out may be the end of the vacation, but it is the beginning of how a customer feels about your property. This was the one big thing we took home with us. Our last memory of the Melia Tropical Resort, Level.

We will never go back. We just booked at a different hotel. What a shame that your facility has taken such a plunge...

Room Tip: Top floors have limited view, very closed in balconies

My wife and I and our two young daughters just returned after being there for my sister in laws wedding. It took us close to two hours to check in and another 2 and half hours for them to bring our bags to our room after they said it would be 10 minutes. When we mentioned how long it took to check in our only response was that they have heard that a lot. The food for breakfast and lunch is also just average. Other than the buffets the dinners were pretty good. Most of the staff were very nice it just seems the management is not very good. When we arrived they told us we qualified for two free passes for our daughters to swim with the dolphins which they were really excited about. We picked a day and time for them to do it. When I went back the next day to make sure we could add us to do it with them they said there was a misunderstanding and we would need to take a tour of another resort to get the passes. They never mentioned this before and also never apologized for it. The resort is also really big and hard to get around. Also there was a big group of us for the wedding and we had requested to stay close to each other. When we arrived they put most people in The Level, which is an area that only people in the level can go to and they have their own pool and own restaurants, and the rest of us in another location. We asked at check in to move but they said no. So many in our group were separated from each other. There is no mention of this on their website. Again poor management. We will not be staying at this resort or any Melia resort in the future.

The hotel in and of itself is quite beautiful. The staff is friendly and had a willingness to help. The food at the buffet was fantastic, however it was normally served cold even being there for when they opened. The drinks were fine, we didn't like how you could only choose from ones on the menu, and no one provided us with the "small amounts of alcohol" we requested in the drinks.

We paid for an all inclusive resort and barley got that, any extra drinks you order off the menu, were not included, same goes for the Lobster and Steak restaurant, not included. The food we ordered from the Lobster and Steak restaurant was not cooked how we asked, I asked for a medium steak, I was given an extremely rare steak. I was quite sick that evening and the following day after consuming since wait staff kept insisting it was fine.
We were also lead to believe that we would be staying in a room with an ocean view, not one that was a 15 minute walk from the beach and pools. You're also poached upon arrival to join the "Circle" of Melia resorts anywhere in the world (Timeshare) worth $28,000 or more, you're given 2 buy one get ones for the hotel, as well as $50 to spend at the mall beside the hotel or the gift shops at the hotel. Upon attendance, we were promised a tour of the resort, that never happened. We didn't even know there was 2 lobbies until day 3. There's hallegers on the beach that literally poach you every 3-5 minutes, how many times do I have to say no thank you? Should think of increasing your security on the beach so that doesn't happen.

I would have liked for there to have been more activities during the day, it was basically sit at the pool or at the beach. On the weekend (Saturday/Sunday) expect to find absolutely no seating at the pool, and extremely limited seating at the beach.

There was no night life, everything shut down at 6 p.m., hope you enjoy listening to the exact same musical soundtrack every single night, or walk around a closed pool and beach, or sit in your room.

We understand that the hotel has to maintain its appeal, however construction at all hours, including night is extremely unappealing.

To conclude, the excursions we chose to do is what made our trip enjoyable for us, but excrusions can't last for 8 days straight.

Perhaps the next person will have a better time if they stay at the Level, not the Caribe. I expected for everyone to be treated the same, definetly not the impression we got. We were definetly expecting more than what we got from this resort chain.

If you choose to stay here, try to make the most of it through other activities, and good luck to you.

Wife and I vacationed alone and used the adults only area, which we found very relaxing. Pool was large with some activities. Had adult only restaurants with good service, but food was not good enough to get 5 stars..probably 3+ star. Very large resort where family and adult sections are separated by distance. Rooms clean service good to excellent.
