Just returned a couple days ago. Overall, pleased with the vacation and to Iberostar Dominicana. The feel of the place is laid back and you can enjoy the entertainment and bar at the Iberostar Punta Cana next door. There are very few true ocean views. We had one. Ask for a room not a level one, much better views. You can see the ocean from most rooms but you need to look across the pool. Not bad, but not true ocean views. The rooms were nice. Maid service was very good. Leave a nice tip on your first day. I will pay off. I highly recommend Star Prestige. We couldn't find much information online prior to our trip. Once there, we looked into it and paid to upgrade (I think that is how we got our room). With Star Prestige you get to pick wine (a lot of it) at meals, the private beach and prestige club are awesome. Way more laid back and less populated than the pool area and other part of the beach. Service was exceptional there. Star Prestige also allowed us to book all the nights we wanted at specialty restaurants (we booked 5). It also comes with either a 30 minute message or round of golf. My wife loved the spa and I loved the golf course. There's coupons for the Star Prestige package. For the four of us, 9 days, the cost was $800 ($22 per day per person). Prices varied a little with the other three families we traveled with. The also is a spa with soaking tubs, sauna and pool that you can use your entire stay if you are in the Prestige club.

The specialty restaurants we all good. The French restaurant was my favorite. Mexican was very good. A little disappointed in the Seafood restaurant, but it wasn't horrible. The buffets were okay. For lunch and breakfast the food was pretty much the same everyday. However, for lunch there typically was very good local food grilled outside (ie. payaya). Food was available almost round the clock.

Bars where okay (again Prestige Club by far the best liquor, best ice and best glassware. Some of the ice and plastic cups at the other bars at a little smell. Walks on the beach both ways were very nice. Entertainment was good, but very packed. Casino is a nice add.

The biggest cons to this place was communication with the people that worked there (not at the Prestige Club), but most everywhere else. Knowing a little Spanish is helpful.

I'm sure I'm missing something. I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have on this place.

Stayed: March 2018

My family of four went to Iberostar Dominicana for the last week of March 2018 with a family of 4. Had a great trip.

PROS:
- check-in was smooth; Ruben at the desk was great and offered us a chance to upgrade to a villa, which we accepted after a tour of both the villa room and our reserved main building room; villa room was available in the morning, which was a plus
- the staff was a highlight of the trip. Super friendly bartenders and waitstaff (Lori and Jensy at the pool bar; Alvaro at the beach and in seafood restaurant; Mercedes, Roberto, and David at the Beach Bar; Jose and Hamlet at the buffets; and finally, Maldonado at the lobby bar). All made the week a bit more special
- wifi was solid throughout most of hotel and made our data plan obsolete and unnecessary for the most part
- ocean outside the resort was great with good daily cleanup of what seaweed was present
- sugary white fine grain sand was awesome
- good room cleaning and mini fridge of water, Budweiser, Presidente and sodas
- got reservations at all restaurants that we wanted even with the resort full
- nice gym
- daily spa visit came with the villa. enjoyed it very much even with basic services
- lots of group activities, especially for kids (Bruno Mars with lots of good energy during water polo)
- good mixed drinks at bars & many different bars
- food was decent. - Mexican and Steak house were our favorites with Steak house having best atmosphere.Never waited in lines for buffet, always options to eat...
- buffet near beach had good cappuccino bar and hot items throughout day. Pork sandwich at pop-up grill during week was best thing I ate all week.
- all bars are great and never had to wait long for service, or a smile from one of the bartenders
- bathrooms throughout resort were clean
- golf course was in good shape but expensive for a round and rentals. free drinks on course are a definite plus
- Michael Jackson show was great - go see it
- bed and linens were clean and very comfortable. Slept well all week - resort was very quiet during evening but being in Villa probably helped
- PUJ airport is convenient, easy to navigate. We got a minibus ahead of time and that was key, Drive to and from resort was painless. Go to airport early for departure though as kiosks to check in fill up and not all are operational. You will need at least 2.5 hours to not feel rushed. Don't stress if you don't have your immigration forms while in line at security. They have them right after you get through.

CONS:
- no swim-up pool bar or regular beach drink service (Alvaro was great with this when he wasn't busy at the buffet though)
- keep in mind, this is a basic all-inclusive resort when compared to the neighboring Iberostar and Riu properties so no swim-up bar or pool hot tub were expected. Next time though, we may pay a bit more for those desired options as we did miss them during the trip
- if you try to see the other resorts, they will remove you (wristband color calls you out). However, kids were able to utilize the water park at the resort next door and they enjoyed that very much
- second bedroom not offered for children so we were all in 1 room (but we knew that ahead of time)
- rooms are dated & lack enough outlets for family of 4 with electronics. Rooms could use a refresh for sure. Water coming through ceiling a bit and strange drain in bathroom was lose and strange
- not great snorkeling from the beach - reefs are outside of swimming zone
- not great environment for kayaking or paddle boarding or sailing, but good for parasailing and banana boating
- food was decent, but like most places, you get tired of all inclusive food offerings towards the end of the trip
- beach is very busy and kind of loud (hotel music & activities), so not too quiet as we had trouble hearing our small speaker at times when activities were going on
- need to reserve beach chairs by 8am or else they get full, even with signs that prohibit reserving of sunbeds
- only 1 beer on tap (Presidente)
- nightly shows, other than MJ show, were not very good. They need a beach show with acrobats, fire, etc.
- went during spring break and disco was filled with super young (like 8th grade looking) kids. Thought there was an age limit - if there was, it was not enforced
- La Pagoda was not worth going to; French place was nice, but very limited menu

Room Tip: Would suggest a villa (villa 90) or upgrade to one when you arrive if they are available. The $ was well worth it.

We just returned from a week at the Iberostar Dominicana, and will plan to visit again. The rooms were spacious and even had extra beds (2 doubles and a single, which was perfect for our family). Service was fantastic, and everyone was very friendly and accommodating. Check-in was very smooth and we were driven by golf cart to our rooms; luggage was delivered to us. We were able to meet with the concierge and schedule dinners at various restaurants on the resort. We enjoyed the Asian and Mexican (our favorite), but wouldn't recommend the American style one. Buffet meals were fine, nothing wonderful, but decent variety. Plenty of lounge chairs around pools and on beach; we put down our towels by 7:30 each morning and it wasn't a problem. Snack food was served all day at the beach restaurants, and drinks were available throughout the resort complex. The thatched umbrella coverings were very nice protection from the heat of the sun and from the occasional raindrops. We had 8 people in our family, including a 3 year old, 11-year old and 14 year old. It was a nice family environment, and we never felt we needed to move around to avoid drunken revelers. We will plan to return here. Very enjoyable!

Room Tip: We appreciated being on the 3rd Floor, as I would think the 1st floor might be a bit damp.

This was my 3rd trip to the DR, 2nd stay at Iberostar Dominicana with a group of friends. As usual, we had a great time. Sadly, the weather did not cooperate with us for part of our stay, but we made do, and you can't control the weather! The beach at this resort is AMAZING - some of the best sand you will find. Plenty of chairs and palapas (a must for my pasty, white skin!) We ate at two specialty restaurants - Oriental and Seafood. Both were OK, nothing spectacular. I wish they would do away with reservations and only being allowed so many reservations. I'd be totally fine with taking my chances at getting in to a particular restaurant, rather than having to choose 2-3. We wound up canceling our reservation at the Mexican restaurant because we were unable to add 3 additional members to the reservation for members of our party who arrived at a later date. We ate primarily at the buffets. I am probably the least picky of the bunch, so I can always find something that will work for me! The shrimp and dirty rice one day at the beach was so delicious, I had a whole plate even AFTER I had already eaten lunch! The staff at the resort work their tails off...be kind, toss a few extra dollars their way, they deserve it! We didn't do much "off resort" this trip - we did one buggy excursion booked through a beach rep that turned out to be a disappointment. We did not receive what we were told we would be getting although, after hearing it was only $35/person, I was not entirely surprised. This is not the fault of the resort!! All in all, even though parts of the resort are a little dated, it is spotlessly clean and it is so beautiful. I would definitely stay here again. Hamlet in the buffet - we miss you already!!

Room Tip: If you are in the big building, ask for a room on top floor - more quiet and good view.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Iberostar Dominicana Feb. 27 - March 5th 2018. We have visited many resorts in the D.R. but we have never been treated to the level of service we received at the Dominicana. We were treated like VIP'S! Everyone was friendly, accommodating, and professional.

Special thanks go to specific staff Members:
Rafaela, Merilin & Judy (buffet staff), Wilson, Ginny (front Desk), Evelyn, Daniel Cecilio, Andrea, Alicia, Inocencio, Andres, Styphanie, Yudelkis, Reynaldo, Daniel the cart driver, Moses(towel guy) and Francis.

My wife and I were celebrating our birthdays and wedding anniversary and the staff made our stay memorable. Iberostar, each one of the above mention staff should be acknowledged for their outstanding work. Thanks again. Great Visit, Great Service and Great Time! We will definitely be returning.
