It's in the detail!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Mar 3, 2023
From the outside we were expecting a traditional Norfolk pub. But inside it was stylish, comfortable and very clean. The staff were friendly, efficient and attentive. But most importantly, the food was great. Well prepared, very tasty, attractively presented and filling. We had the fish and chips with mushy peas, and the burger and fries. Both meals were exceptionally good in every detail - the crispy chips, perfectly cooked fish, little bowl of fresh tartare sauce and perfect burger. Even a trip to the'ladies' was pleasant, immaculately clean, generously resourced. A bit of a squeeze for space but we could forgive that. A great find. We'll be back.

Waited 45 minutes for drinks, 1 hour 15 minutes for starters, bread & olives forgotten (arrived after starters), fish full of bones, steak undercooked and luke warm & chips were shove in the oven, not triple cooked.

Clearly understaffed, but no apology for this, would have been bearable if the food was good, but it wasn’t.

Used to regularly visit for family get togethers, sad to see it is not at all how we remembered it.

We stayed here for two nights because my daughter was getting married in the local church. We had the Starlight room, which was stunning! It has a separate seating area and a good size bedroom. The bed and pillows were absolutely luxurious. The breakfast was delicious and we were able to enjoy it more due to having the extra living space. The staff were very accommodating, delivering lunch to our room for the bridal party. We felt at home as we walked around to each other’s rooms and we received cheery greetings en route.

It was lovely to be able to walk from our room to the church in less than two minutes, crossing one very small road.

Thank you Wiveton Bell, we will definitely return!

This pub has Michelin awards for food. We can’t understand why. The pub has extended out beyond its ability in every way. The menu is short but uninspiring. Soup so salty it was sent back. Cod cheeks over cooked, dry, greasy, with garnish so tiny it was hard to see it. Mains slightly better but only usual pub standard. Staff very friendly and helpful. Main rooms pleasant to be in, back Marquee is huge but well furnished. However at around 190 covers this pub has only one cubicle toilet for women and only one urinal and one cubicle for men. It’s rear parking field has no lighting at all and is in total darkness. Felt very unsafe underfoot. Certainly not living up to all these reviews. Basic pub food in nice original pub that has now far too many covers and not skill evident in the kitchen. Locals love it and tourists come due to the baffling good reviews and awards. People looking for restaurant quality food will be disappointed.

We took Mother to celebrate her 87th birthday and had a very nice lunch. The roast was excellent , so was the fish and chips. We had stopped going as we were very disappointed with the food. It has been taken over and the change has been for the better, food so much improved and we will return. The service was good and the staff polite and friendly.

Room tip: as we did not stay could not comment on the sleep quality but would think rooms to the rear are quieter as the front looks out onto the road

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights while visiting the North Norfolk coast. Great accommodation: very nice spotless room, comfortable bed, lovely bathroom and a balcony on which to have a drink or eat breakfast.
The food and service were excellent.
